Warwick might be killer on navy suede...actually it'd be awesome in navy or green shell.

A local retailer near me is having a sale on the Jefferson in walnut and black calfskin. I can proxy for anyone interested for $295-305 total (depending on shipping cost). Only widths B and D, but I believe just about every length is available.

Also, Gridirons for $195-200 shipped.

PM if interested and we can work something out.

This looks like the 8 last to me. I have the Carlyle in black and the front half of the shoe looks identical to that. If so, these will probably look even better on the foot than the shelf. Maybe AE is trying to trend away from the blobbiness. Exciting stuff. :nodding:

So the Kiowa IS on the 65 last after all...after chasing that black hills for so long I just realized this is pretty similar. Maybe not mctavish/elgin similar but pretty close

Are you sure its a strictly cordovan sale, or just a 20% off sale? I seem to remember them doing a specific cordovan sale as well last year that was $399 and not the $325 sale. Last years $299 sale was first part of Feb. So........lets hope $399 isn't the new low sale price.

Nice.  Considerable improvement over the Norwich IMO.

Amusing aside:  If you search for "Warwick" on allenedmonds.com, the Norwich is your result.

I think this may have already been said, but the Norwich serves a very different role than this Warwick. I doubt AE made it to "improve upon" the Norwich. The Norwich is a casual, chunky looking double leather monk, not a dressy option for a suit. This would be the equivalent of saying the McAllister is an improvement upon the McNeil. Both play a different role.

Point taken.  Maybe a more accurate way to make my point is to say that I've come to believe that a casual and chunky monk is kind of a contradiction in terms, and the Warwick, to my eyes, is a much more attractive shoe than the Norwich.  Perhaps someday there will be room in AE's lineup for both.

I only inquired about a cordovan sale but perhaps other 2nds will be as well. I bought my patriots last Feb for $299, I was hoping this year would be $325. Oh well.

Also, I think I've read that the trunk show 2nds would be listed on the shoebank but under stock colors. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks

new lasts scare me....lol

Do you notice a difference between your eagle county and bayfields?

Oh man me too haha. I did try on the Warwick and I think i like it. Its the new(ish) 201 last.  Longer in the toe than the 5 last, but roomier across the ball too. Thought it felt really good. I have a high instep and i was on the last notch but it felt just fine.

The Eagle County fits me perfect and is calf...it fits perfect and a 13 would have been to long...some people long shoes or boots do not bother them but for me it has become not tolerable to have shoes that are too long...Also this is just me but I find all my AE shell shoes and boots to fit slightly more roomy than the calf counterparts. So my Bayfields fit a touch loose...but medium weight socks or lighter boot socks fix that.

I will also say that the Eagle County has a more elegant taper to the toe than the Bayfield...so for a dressier boot it works better than the Bayfield in my size.

Lighting isn't the best but this shows the taper on a 10.5E. (And if the PA shared the EC's cap placement, I might have bought some PA's by now).

Those Eagle Counties in calf are beauts. I saw a Bourbon pair on a thread that are the best looking boots I've seen. How long until AE releases some calf EC's again?

TBH, I don't know much about monks.  Are they suppose to be strictly dressy like a balmoral?  I've always seen the Norwich as most similar to a plain toe blucher.  In this case though, the last/shape of the shoe dictates its use.  I don't see anything wrong with the Norwich design for those that prefer a more casual make up like a blucher.  I had a pair in brown shell a couple of years ago but returned them because the quality of the shell was humiliating for AE... I would not have paid a seconds price for them.  The shell had numerous imperfections and pock marks all over.  Almost opted for a calf version but didn't want to spend $350 for calf.  I personally like the idea of a somewhat casual monk to be worn with denim, wool, cords, etc...

[Edit: I don't mean to keep calling you out and not trying to be contentious.]

EDIT: i would recommend going up a half size, but you never know for sure until you try it on. See Kahunas comment below.

Really? I got the same size in my bayfields that i wear in strand, etc, and its almost unwearable for longer than 30 mins. I've stretched it to kingdom come and it still pinches my toes. Some people are blessed with the same size across all the lasts, but they're pretty rare in my experience at least. You're the lucky one :)

Kyle

Sorry to interrupt the Warwick celebration (not a big fan of monk straps but I will admit it does look pretty good), but I think based on this input I will probably choose between the Kiowa and the Black Hills -  since neither is available in black, I'll see what I like better.  As much as I like my SA, it is tough to have a female SA who really has never actually tried on any of the shoes, they are just going by other people's comments which may be way off.  If the 222 (which the Aberdeen is on) is close to the 108, I don't think I would pursue that.  I tried the Wilbert and one other I can't remember.  I went down 0.5 size in length, and they seemed to fit ok but I was a little closer to the front of the shoe than I would like (definitely closer than one thumbwidth).  As I mentioned before, my biggest problem has always been going down the half size in length and finding something that wasn't too short, and with the 108 I thought it was dangerously close to that.  The 65 is much longer and feels a lot more comfortable.  Not saying I could never get anything in the 108 but it wouldn't be a first choice.  Going my normal size was way too long in the 108.  Thanks for all your input - I will probably end up with pairs 9 and 10 at this rate.
