I had a pair recrafted, and I was happy with the job. I did the standard package, and turnaround was about 4 weeks IIRC. That said, I highly doubt I will have another pair of calf recrafted. With the availability of seconds, many times discounted even further with sales, $125 to fix a heavily used pair that I could buy brand new for less than $200 doesn't make a lot of sense to me. But I might change my mind if I really loved the shoes or if they were no longer available new.

Thanks for the reply. What are "seconds?" Not only am I new to the forums, but I am new to the industry.

If they go down to $183 or whatever, I just may have to grab the Navy Suede.

Call your SA. James at Riverhead told me the sale started yesterday. Still shows 237 for me as well.

X-post of my Regular Brown Townley that came in yesterday:

Slightly misaligned eyelets on one shoe (I guess that's a thing that haunts my orders now), but not too bad. Love the variations in depth of color (my first brown shell) and the fit is PERFECT.
Happy Wednesday everyone!

Bought a pair of burgundy cordovan Randolphs off the 'bay last week. Very comfy. I have a narrow foot and got measured as a 10.5C in the McAllisters. Bought 10.5B and they work well. This is my first pair of AE shells, but I own the Alden tassel.

Couple of personal observations.

1) I like the Color 8 better than the AE burgundy.
2) I like the inside padding that Aldens have
3) construction is very similar.

Any experiences

Here are some of my AE recrafting experiences

"Seconds" have some type of defect and can be purchased from the Allen Edmonds Shoe Bank.  Defects can range in severity, some being unnoticeable to most people.

This is terrific. Thank you. I hopefully won't waste too much of my time at work hounding the inventory.

Any experiences or advice appreciated.

Well I won a recrafting package from AE on Instagram last year but have only really had most of my shoes for only a year so wasn't sure I was going to be able to use the service. They did offer to change the welt and sole on my sun faded burgundy Leeds to a more casual, winter appropriate setup. They turned out fantastic and I have lots more pics of their whole transformation in my pictures here.

My experience, ymmv

I have 2 pairs of Rothsays on the same 606 last.  They fit great, I love them.

I have 2 pairs of Patriots: Shell and suede on 606 last.  Both Patriot pairs feel different than both Rothsay pairs.

With both Patriots, it feels like someone glued quarters under the big and small toe mta / joint /pivot.  I can feel with my fingers where the drop off for the forefoot is, it is further forward on the Patriots than on the Rothsays.  They are narrow compared to my comfy 1 last Scottsdale loafers, but width alone is not my issue.

Not sure whether I will wear either pair enough to see if this will change w break in.  I have no other examples where a last fits really well with one item and is not really wearable with the other.

Most Patriot owners here seem very happy w fitment.  Since both Patriots fit similarly and both Rothsays fit similarly, I assume my feet are just not good candidates for Patriots.

The patriot doesn't fit like any other 606 last shoe, because of where the strap is located. Its quite a bit higher on the vamp which closes off the throat of the shoe. This is great for people that have issues finding a loafer that really holds their foot in. The Ascher and patriot are both 606 last loafers, but fit completely different because of the strap location.

Generally speaking, almost everyone goes a size wider or longer in the patriot compared to their standard size because of the tight vamp. If you can get the right fit though, its a spectacular shoe.

I know there was some discussion about a week ago that AE didn't have Leather Lotion on their website. Leather Lotion is now back on the AE website - just in case somebody was needing some.

This is the reason I like the Patriot...only loafer I've found that works with my "low-volume" feet.

And that is exactly why I asked, I too have low volume foot.  Narrow heel, ankles, normal instep.

Sounds like a good one to try
