I've had one pair recrafted... a beaten up pair of Leeds I rescued on eBay. Here's the results that I posted in early fall.

Personally so far, i cant recommend any of the recrafting packages.  In my opinion, that $125 + would be much better spent on just getting another pair of new shoes.  It has been my (one and only....lol) experience that the result of the recrafting package is considerably underwhelming for what you pay.  I realize they restretch the shoes to relast them  and polish them but mine came back feeling completely different.    They were looser, with noticeable bowing and a crooked tongue. And the polishing job was MUCH worse than i had hoped for.  My advice is that if you are on a budget and can only afford the cost to recraft, then u should consider going for it...but if you have the money to buy a new pair, then the recrafting service isnt even worth the effort...hopefully my experience was an anomaly though

My SA told me they are running a 20% off certain closeouts right now. Mcgregor suedes for $183 I think. James at Riverhead has always been great.

I had the same patriots on my screen today, but had no idea how they would fit. Let us know how they fit compared to your others. I did buy a suede strand however satisfied.gif

Will do. I wish they would release a snuff suede strand and loafer.

I currently own 8 pairs of AEs and they are all black.  For work shoes I mainly rotate between the Park Ave, Dalton, Jermyn and Lucca.  Am I really in such a minority of people who wear black shoes?  I routinely wear my Park Aves with business casual dress; I never thought much of it.

Second vote for an opinion on the Patriot fit - one of the few lasts I have never tried.  I have heard that it runs "much tighter than the Randolph" but that is about it.

1) The sales rep hinted that seconds often have fit defects. So if you'd normally wear a say a 10D there is a decent chance the shoe won't fit. I find this incredibly hard to believe...

2) I got walnut strands and bourbon kenilworth's off the shoebank last year. It is far too late to return them, but i didn't notice finish issues. The strands are like a faded walnut color (not beautifully polished and shiny like new 1st quality) and the right Kenilworth shoe has the same issue. How often do you see defects related to the finish and do you typically just send them back?

I want to order more shoes from the shoebank but am just scared to now.

1) My SAs at the retail store said something like that too.  Absolute bs - I own 4 seconds and one of them did have fit issues (improper width on left shoe) but they exchanged it out immediately.  I also had a length conversation with customer service over the phone who said flaws should be cosmetic.  If the shoebank has something you want take the chance.

2) This kind of thing can happen unfortunately.  You have to inspect them carefully.  I have seen scratches, coloration issues, etc. so I don't find this comment too strange.

Wow thanks for mentioning that. I see the bleeckers have dropped from $277 to $237, suede cavanaughs from $219 to $157 (tempting!), and I think the suded mcgregors have come down to $237 too. That's all I've noticed from memory.

I wear them with Navy pants and other shades of blue and grey both light to dark and brown tones. My workplace isn't conservative as a law firm or such

Until Friday. I'm going to brave the underside of the interstate and try to make it to Gladys Knight's.

My SA told me that for the McGregors it's 20% off of $237 for $183 or so.

Edit: I guess that's $190. Math!

Any experiences or advice appreciated.

I had a pair recrafted, and I was happy with the job. I did the standard package, and turnaround was about 4 weeks IIRC. That said, I highly doubt I will have another pair of calf recrafted. With the availability of seconds, many times discounted even further with sales, $125 to fix a heavily used pair that I could buy brand new for less than $200 doesn't make a lot of sense to me. But I might change my mind if I really loved the shoes or if they were no longer available new.

Still showing as $237 on the bank for me.

If they go down to $183 or whatever, I just may have to grab the Navy Suede.
