Strand-ard makeup....

From someone that is 38 and wears suits 5 days a week, I own 3 pairs of black shoes (shell park ave, strand, Manchester). I will buy a dress boot and a Jefferson or Mcallister at some point too.

I adhere to strick rules when wearing certain suits and shoes. If I am speaking in front of a group or meeting with a conservative individual or group the STANDARD uniform for me is navy suit with plain cap toe park aves. I never wear a black shoe with a navy or blue suit with any perforations or borouging - just plain. I will wear those with any shade if gray.

This wil all get interesting when my navy shell strands arrive.

Anyone have a pair of the Promontory Point boots that can comment of their comfort, fit, and aesthetic? AE has a stock of first quality boots sitting around for $247, and I'm thinking about picking up a pair.

They are shaped just like the Bayfield boot FYI...have seen them in person but they will not look like the picture.

Never tried on the Bayfields, sadly, as I got into the shoe game too late. But reading around, if they're shaped liked the bayfields, then I'm guessing it's roughly true to size? How did they look? Did they catch the eye?

I think the promontory is on a different last and on top of that it has a removable insert which most people do not realize and then bash it for being small...since it is from AE directly I would order two sizes try them with and without insert and return the pair that does not fit...returns are free

I'm going full loafer now. I just picked up a pair of Patriots in Bitter Chocolate Suede seconds for $127 and Westchester Burgundy Cordovan seconds for $297. We'll see how I like them on my feet.

Also, I'm stuck in downtown Atlanta for training, anyone have any restaurant recommendations and general safety advice? :p

My SA told me they are running a 20% off certain closeouts right now. Mcgregor suedes for $183 I think. James at Riverhead has always been great.

Where in downtown? And can you expense it? smile.gif

I had a visit to the AE store and one of the sales reps scared me away from the shoebank. I've had only a couple purchases from there but defects turned out to be major and I was too much of a newbie to see them. A few questions...

1) The sales rep hinted that seconds often have fit defects. So if you'd normally wear a say a 10D there is a decent chance the shoe won't fit. I find this incredibly hard to believe...

2) I got walnut strands and bourbon kenilworth's off the shoebank last year. It is far too late to return them, but i didn't notice finish issues. The strands are like a faded walnut color (not beautifully polished and shiny like new 1st quality) and the right Kenilworth shoe has the same issue. How often do you see defects related to the finish and do you typically just send them back?

I want to order more shoes from the shoebank but am just scared to now.

I'm struggling to wear my Walnut Daltons because they're a little loud for my style but I can't let them go to waste. I work in a business casual environment that involves wearing wool or nice cotton slacks and a button down. What color pants do AE walnut go with?

Hyatt regency on peachtree st. Typically yes, but for training the per diem is too low for anything extravagant.

1) he's messing with you to try to get you to buy from him. Of my 16 AE pairs, 6 are 2nds. I've only ever had to return one due to a comfort/fit issue, and it was because the toe stiffener was off center in an unlined chukka.

2) they likely haven't gotten a lot of TLC in the outket, but a brushing and fresh Polish would likely help them.

Sometimes the "flaw" is a burnishing or finishing blemish, like "tiger striping" on bourbon shoes.

Has anyone used Allen Edmonds recrafting service?  I have some old AEs that got beaten up pretty badly and are missing a heel and I'm trying to figure out if they are a good candidate for recrafting.  And, if so, which of the packages I would need to get.  They were a gift from before I appreciated AE.  I hope they can be salvaged.

Any experiences or advice appreciated.
