Out of respect to the thread, I have spoiler-alerted the following... Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

My friend, while your Brown Shell McNeils are a very nice shell longwing, I will continue to consume these shell LWBs.  smile.gif

Not to turn this into a LWB debate, but as an owner of both a shell MacNeil and shell Alden LWB, I've always found myself thinking the MacNeil is the better looking shoe. But I also like my Alden LWB a lot, so it's not like I'm down on it or anything. I think the lasts used on these two LWBs are different enough that often people will like like over the other.

All in good fun.  :fistbump:  I like the Alden LWBs too and in fact am on a list for cigar shell.  However, I could be waiting months if not years for them, and in the meantime I was able to get my MacNeils custom-made with a three-week turnaround for only a few dollars more than what the Alden will cost.

Warning: mildly obscene (Click to show)

And that's why Alden can SUCK IT.

(just kidding)

Can I ask why 2nds Pricing would preclude you from any other customer service other than recrafting? I was always under the assumption that AE's 2nds still fall under their guarantee, with the exception of the "minor cosmetic blemishes" which qualify it for 2nd Pricing. From the SB site: "Our Factory-Second shoes contain a minor cosmetic blemish that does not affect the fit, comfort or durability of our shoes."

Or maybe I'm misunderstanding what "customer service" you would be losing out on with 2nds Pricing...

I think what she meant is, with seconds pricing, they wouldn't be able to take them back for any related or unrelated cosmetic issues in the future. At seconds pricing, if the tongue tear grows or the leather bubbles after just a few wears, I'd be on my own. Keeping them at first pricing keeps me covered for either case since all they did was a price adjustment. They'd take care of functionality issues regardless of first/second pricing.

Maybe I'm mistaken. I'm just trying to play it safe.

Gotcha--thanks.

I went casual and pulled the Neumoks. The players were a little too virginal for me.

Unfortunately I couldn't get a concrete reason for them to be seconds. Sales dude said he saw no issues with them. I figured I was putting up $10 to bet against him...

The associate offered to take them back and send another pair, but I'm not willing to risk getting a pair with worse issues, like a torn liner for instance. She also offered to adjust to the price of seconds ($237) but I would be ineligible for any other customer service aside from recrafting. Not willing to take that risk either.

Just my opinion, but I would either exchange them under 1st pricing or keep them under 2nd pricing.  That tear would be unacceptable to me if I was paying  1st pricing.

Awesome - glad to hear and see it. They're easily my favorite pair of AE shoes, and I have added some pretty cool stuff to my collection as of late...

I need a pair of those...just can not figure out what I want...I like the brown and black but keep wanting to MTO something...I have emailed Allison looking for some unusual leathers etc but there never seems to be...would love these in a rough out leather or if I could get an answer on the chamois...

I'm just going to think of it as a feature; it's what makes my Bleecker Streets unique. I'm tired of inspecting shoes, calling CS, returning them and then waiting for new pairs just to do it all over again. A replacement pair could have a messed up welt, torn stitching, uneven eyelets, crooked cap-toe... I'd really rather cement this crack myself and be done with it.

on a side note seems the Promotory Point football grain is on clearance in a whole lot of sizes now..I know my size was not available not that long ago

When I first read that AE was going to make a LWB on its most iconic/classic last for dress (Oxford/balmoral) shoes I thought it might be as big a disaster as their Larchmont. I tried the McGregor at an AE store last week and was pleasantly surprised. It was really nice. However, IMHO LWBs are supposed to be a bit clunky with double leather soles. They are not meant to be a refined, single-leather soled "dress shoe." If I wanted that sort of dressy wingtip I'd get the McAllister. I would be much more interested in a LWB on the 1 last (i.e. Leeds) with double leather. But again, that's my opinion. I did like the McGregor. The (97??) last of the McNeil is very difficult to size, and really uncomfortable, at least in my experience.

Oh so an EG too. What is your thought on them? I guess Alden's are you favorite for the price then?
