Looking for a shoe for the chinos and jeans that will hold up in the snow. I'd get the soles done if they're leather soles, thinking of:

Dalton - not sure what color as I have burgundy cordovan dundees already and Oxblood may be repetitive.

Eagle River - brown on sale for $197

Long Branch in CXL - sole looks a little bulky to me

Bellevue in CXL - already own a chukka.

Open to other recommendations

IIRC, the Eagle River is simply the Eagle Country with the same lug sole the Long Branch has.  So if you don't like the LB for its lug sole, I'm not sure why you'd like the ER.

There are, of course, some of the EC MTO seconds available on ebay for about $230 with the lower profile Diante sole.

If it were me, I wouldn't resole a perfectly good, much less a brand new, shoe simply for use in snow.  I'd put the money toward something already suitably equipped.

Of course, it sort of depends how much snow you are talking about.  I think for dodging the occasional slushy puddle or 2-3 inches in the parking lot around town, any of the above mentioned boots would be great with the pants you've described.  Anything more serious than that, I'd be thinking about pulling on my Bean hunting boots and either leave my nicer shoes at home or carrying them with me in a bag.

Frame of reference: my other sizes and their fit

BB version of Strand and MacNeil: 9.5D fits very well

Regular AE version of MacNeil: 9.5D is sometimes fitting well and other times is a touch too loose until I put in a thin leather Pedag insole

AE version of Kenilworth: 9.0 D fits well now that it is broken in, although at times I wonder if I would have preferred a 9.0 E (but I was worried too wide would mean bowing in that shoe).

Thanks, doc. Great sizing report.  Did you get the BB version or the AE version?

Opinion Poll:

What looks better with a gray suit?

Dark brown Strand

or Chili Vernon

Brown Strand...are they shell?

I like Strand in walnut but brown is spectacular!

Not a big fan of chili (don't mean to offend anyone here).  I'd go with the brown strand.  In the summer, I'd go with walnut strand.

I wear them once every couple of weeks. All I use is Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion (I have only applied it once when I bought them). I brush after each wearing.

The BB version during a sale from the outlets. All BB shoes I have purchased over the phone from the outlets have appeared to be first quality to me. The AE seconds from the outlets have been typically nice quality but I have received one or two that were poor quality.

I like chili. Just not sure about wearing it with gray. I actually hate the walnut strand. It seems like a paradox of a casual color in a dressy show.

Brown Strand, but I agree 100% with RTP.

I love chili. It's my favorite AE calf color. But brown is a better choice for that shoe with that suit.

Just as a small clarification, the Vernon is in Saddle Brown, not Chili.

Doesn't change my answer.

For all intents and purposes, it's the same color. The main difference is the consistancy of the hide, as its from a different tannery.
