bbob, I am no expert but that crease is not acceptable.

I would contact cs with your photos and get  their take on the problem.

AE has GREAT cs.

Keep us posted.

Do y'all think this will work its self out during break-in, or could this be a possibe defect? I really like the new color, and these boots. My only complaint would be a wide vamp creating a gap in the lace area, maybe this will decrease after a few months of wear.

That's not right, take suggestion call customer service. Also shaker heights has wide bottom lacing and that is not a problem. Are those shoes long for you? Seems from picture they might be tight and long...of course could just be angle. That on the 65 last?

That is without a doubt defective and no it will not work itself out. Exchange those for another pair.

To echo what others have said, I would definitely be calling CS or returning them with that type of crease.  That's not normal.

what do you guys use to condition your shoes?

i have a couple AE, ferragamos that i have never conditioned. i use obaneufs and leather honey on my redwings and belts, but never tried it on any of my expensive pieces.  i have a bottle of the AE leather lotion but it feels very watery like cetaphil lotion.

I use Saphir Renovator on most calfskin shoes, followed by a cream polish and a wax polish.

On chromexcel/cordovan I use VSC or Saphir's neutral cordovan cream.  Saphir stuff works wonderfully, I've found.

Thanks for the feedback K75,

These are 65 last, and the fit might be off a little for me, and these are on the 65last.

I am all over the place with the 65 last. The best fit I have found is 15c with the Stands and they fit perfect. These are 15d (d width is the only availability) and they feel a little tight at widest part of my foot and there is a lot of room (long) in the toe box. Think I should drop down to 14 and up the with e-eee? For reference I have keniel worths in 15D and they are very wide on me, and my Mctavish are good on the width just feel too long. It's hard only having one width option for most of the 65 last offerings in my size.

When I take these back I'll definitely ask the associate for advice.

Well I will stop complaining about limited choices for my foot when I think sizing down to a 12.5 would help but not offered. It could not hurt to size down to try. Sometimes a last just does not fit great. Personally I have come to really dislike shoes that are too long for me but fit well otherwise.

Completely agree with this. I've learned to only wear my measured size in shoes and not try to force the fit by going up or down in length or width. It just creates other problems. Some lasts just don't fit. The only exceptions are lasts that are known to be generous and acknowledged that way by the manufacturer, such as the Tricker's 4444 or Alden Trubalance, for example.
