AE sales associates absolutely know what you are wearing. Every time I walk into a store, they look down at my shoes just after greeting me. Whether or not this helped with the price match, I have no idea. I think the reason it varies so much from store to store is that there is no official price match policy. It seems it is at the manger's discretion. Some wouldn't even price match on the same models while the sale was still private.
That has been my experience, both in buying new shoes at a discount, price match, or even at 33% off on a completely different style that is not advertised as such.

I have read how poor the stores may have been - but choosing to work with a Manager only has proven extremely rewarding in both choice, size, style, savings, and returns.

Managers are the last stop in how well a department shows up on the quarterly sales reports, and profitable volume (at the expense of more profits) is much better viewed by the store because it establishes more customer relationships.

I have chosen to only work with managers for my own self interest.

Do you know which burgundy belt it is? I didn't see it on the Nordstrom site but I could be missing it.
Yes, many items are not on the web site or on sale - but as expressed by another member here, the discount can be extended to other items when working with a manager.

StyleForum Friends -

Thanks very much for your great interest and support of Allen Edmonds. I'm seriously impressed and, on behalf of the company, honored by the 615 pages in this thread. I want you to know that we strive to live up to your high standards every single day, not just in product quality and styling but also in customer service. Customized shoes require special processing and, as you'd expect, aren't as efficiently done as our long production runs of in-line shoes. However, in return for your support, if it's a leather we carry in another style that you'd like on your chosen shoe but is not currently offered -- or if it's a width on a legacy last (such as the 5, the 7, the 8 or the 1) that isn't currently offered -- just send me an email at [email protected]. If we can do it for you, we will. The pricing will be "ad hoc" based on degree of difficulty, but I'm eager to give you a special deal. If we can't do it, I'll explain why. In other words, we'll do whatever we can to return your loyalty and trust.

Thanks very much again to you all and best wishes,
Paul

Hope that helps.

THANKS! just curious though... for those of you out there that have done the AE MTO thing, what has it set you back?
There is no additional cost beyond the cost of the standard model. So it will be dependent on what you are looking for

I am emailing AE right now to see if those can be made in a narrower width than advertised. I was going to be finished after the burgundy shell MacNeils, but I've always wanted (and spouted off about) an unadorned black calf wholecut to go with black tie... here's hoping I can put my money where my mouth is.

Got an email back from Paul on Friday indicating he'd pass it along; got a voicemail just now from Allison explaining that the 3-333 last doesn't exist in the size I would need. Not unexpected. Still psyched to see this sort of shoe once again available from a US maker, and more than satisfied with how quickly they got back to me on my request.

Consider yourself quite lucky. I cannot get an email returned to save my life about the status of my MTO and a change I wanted to make to it...

Have you tried working with your SA in store? They can probably speak directly to HQ easier if you're having issues getting an answer.

No, I have not. This order was placed directly with AE customer service via the SF SWAT program established by Mr. Grangaard. Since the store had nothing to do with the order or revenue associated with it, it felt disingenuous to me to consume their time.

Something to consider. I placed my order through the SA for the MTO, but I don't think it's disingenuous to ask for their help if you have a good relationship with the SA and store. Even more so if you plan to give them more business later on.

wow... that's great to hear. So it only costs more if the options you choose are more expensive (like if you request shell for a shoe that is typically calf)?
