I'm looking to add brown shoe to my collection and am currently between the BB Park Aves or the BB Strands. Any recommendations for one over the other?

I already have walnut Strands, black Carlyles, chili McAllisters, cognac MacNiel 5s, bourbon Daltons and a couple more casual AEs/boots. My work attire is anything from athletic clothes to business, depending on the day, so pretty much anything goes. I've never really been a big fan of plain shoes, but with the recent addition of the Carlyles, they could be growing on me...

Bourbon Dalton (limited perforations) Oxford Gumlite

I wear boots most days, so a AE is fulfilling my own fantasy boot tour.

-with sufficient variety in both materials and outsoles for my preferences.

Very nice indeed. I was actually eyeing the Sturgis in black to match with my motorcycle jacket that gets little love these days as I have limited black casual footwear.

Just bought these black Eagle County seconds for a nice deal from the Shoebank. Only problem is they're black. I've been searching around for color change DIYs with mixed results...anyone gone to a lighter color on calf? Was thinking bourbon or so. They're cheap enough at $129 that it's not a big deal either way but can't imagine wearing black boots.

For fans of AE shoes in the wild and for fans of AE (Woodlore) shoe trees.....

Wearing my English Tan Dublin Leather MTO McGillicuddys (they are MTO McAllisters with a split reverse welt so some people said that they looked like McTavishs, so I call them McGillicuddys) and buying some Woodlore shoe trees repackaged in Nordstrom Rack packaging for $14.97 a pair at Nordstrom Rack.......

Then don't buy black boots.

Those aren't suede...

These pics of NON-BROGUED and/or MILDLY PERF'ed AE (shoes AND boots) are starting to grow on me... I love both of these makeups. That Bourbon Dalton looks soooo slick. Wonder how it'd look in BOB'S CHILI.

Would the Burgundy Shell Strand GMTO folks consider a NON-MEDALLIONED makeup of the shoe instead..? Can we get a quick poll? MUHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!! :stirpot:

Suddenly wondering why the GMTO went with an Eagle County instead of a wingless Dalton. It looks great!

People have lightened black shoes like this and then redarkened them as another color. Often black shoes will have discolorations and issues with the leather that may appear if you attempt to lighten them. For that reason, you'd be advised to recolor them with another dark shade.  Still, despite being black, this boot looks great in person, much better than in the photos.

polojock615, can I interpret your reply to mean that - with some more time and consensus - you would surely accept this very slight modification on the as-of-yet-uninvoiced GMTO...ultimately making the shoe even EASIER to construct???   :smarmy:

Just asking (soft lobby)

Yea, bourbon is an ultimate boot color.  This is my first up close view.

And,

I agree obviously about the perforation removal or reduction.

Love these new choices.

If anyone wanted to do a perf fluctuated pair...

This is a great time to use the $269 Long Branch for an mto -

it is still under $400 and you can choose

-perforation removal/reduction

(that is a great looking boot to remove all perforations imo)

-color/material so many choices, but look hard at CXL or shell :)

-outsole, leather/rubber, commando or other

-lining

That imo makes for a very good deal on a world class boot.

Sturgis is an mto no matter what, since it is only offered up to size 14.  It definitely has a good biker look for a black boot.

Still...the Long Branch is the bargain of the moment, imo.
