DAMN!  That photo makes me so thankful that I ordered the shell Townley!  That is a thing of beauty!  They look as though they've never been worn.

Hey guys I just decided to get a pair of burgundy shell park avenues for job interviews.

Does anyone have a similar pair that they dress down regularly though? Perhaps looking to wear them with navy chinos or grey trousers.

Strongly prefer 5 last (don't mind more formal looking shoes)

Current 2 Pairs

1) Black Calf Fifth Ave
2) Brown Burnished Calf Strand

Looking to add a walnut pair, what do you guys think about having a second strand?Possibly the mcgregor? Are these too loud/ am I too young for wingtips or walnut strands to be appropriate? What would you guys go with?

Thanks in advance!

I'm 32 and HELL no am I too young for strands. My favourite pair of AE by far.

FWIW, I'm 27 and dress business casual (leaning towards dress) and have the following:

AE Park Avenue: black, bourbon
AE Strand: bourbon, walnut
AE Kenilworth: bourbon
AE Leeds: black shell, cappuccino shell
AE Patriot: brown shell
AE MacNeil: brown shell
AE Mora 2.0s: bourbon
AE Dalton: bourbon
J. Crew Bennett chukka: sahara suede
Alden Barrie Indy: natural chromexcel
Alden LWBs: black shell, #8 shell, ravello shell, whiskey shell
C&J Perforated Cap Toe Oxford: dark brown
Kent Wang Benchgrade Cap Toe: dark brown

I think the McGregor and McAllister are great options (sold my bourbon and walnut McAs after realizing they don't get worn anymore due to the LWBs). Walnut is a great color, I just don't find it to be as versatile a color in combining with outfits as other options available. Hence, my 5 pairs of bourbon versus 1 walnut.

I promise I'm done buying shoes after some whiskey and/or ravello LHS and a black grain boot. shog[1].gif

I wear my tassel loafers with button downs and polos with chinos and jeans. I feel that loafers in general are casual shoes.

I'd get the McGregors and agree with everyone else that you're definitely not too young. Boomers rejected their fathers' style, which is now enjoying a renaissance with younger generations.

Not regularly, but I pull this off on the road when I don't want to take a 2nd pair of shoes.

Unboxed my Shoebank RDA scores!  I'll put up some post-polish pics after I have some time to give them a good work-over.

Brown Shell Norwich, very surprised at how light this shade of brown is.  Much lighter than my Brown Shell Jeffersons.  Love it.

Burgundy Shell Macneil.  I can already tell that this shoe is going to get a lot of use.  It's just about the perfect addition to my Burgundy Leeds for business-casual work settings.

Black Calf Strands.  This is replacing a worn-out pair of Johnston & Murphy to become my one-and-only black shoe (worn once per week, max).

I'm not extremely happy with the finishing on the Macneil.  They look dead compared to my Leeds that I stripped down a few months ago (photo below, this was taken without a recent polish and fresh off a long-haul flight from Singapore).  I'll be breaking out the Renovateur and removing the factory finish as soon as I get a spare minute.  Going to try some VSC that I just got instead of the Reno that I have been using.

Four pairs of shell Shoebank seconds since May...I'm done for a while.

Have you had that kind of finishing success on all your other AE shells? I feel like mine are a bit inconsistent. But maybe I just need to wear them more. My shell park aves are about as dull as can be.

I am on the ballot this fall. :) Running unopposed... No doubt because the other side fears my shiny shoes... :)

Regarding the shine; I had the same success on most of my shells. I would say my brown Jeffersons are a little duller but the more I work on them, the more I get there with them.

* There was a flash on in the pic I posted.

I suggest calling Customer Service and ask them based on the numbers inside the shoe.

That is a great score! I'd pay a premium for that shade in several makeups.  That looks medium brown or cappuccino(?)

:)

Shoebank is a great way to build up closet coverage and to evaluate your preferences.  Congrats on your additions...but especially the lighter shell!

Last November, I bought my first new pair of AE shoes, based on a used pair I had picked up on ebay.

The $35 recraft card from recrafting those shoes ate a hole in my pocket.

The slippery slope hit me hard because my size had always been impossible to shop for.

I work in very different industries, so dress is

-contractor casual

and or

-business casual

Since I am often unexpectedly required to walk properties, my boot preference is apparent.

Current list, in closet or coming soon:

Shoes

Ashton black shell

Ashton burg shell
Benton brown shell
Leeds burg shell
Patriot brown shell
Westchester burg shell

McGregor bourbon calf
Park Avenue black calf
Scottsdale burg calf loafer
Scottsdale black calf loafer
Patriot brogue suede
Eastport tan leather
Hector black leather
Fulton burgundy leather

Chukkas & boots
Dundee black shell
Dundee brown shell

Fifth Street brown calf
Fifth Street black calf
Bellevue brown calf
Gobi Navy suede
Bleeker Street bitter chocolate suede

Rothsay black leather (recrafted-chili welt, black sole)
Rothsay brown leather

Dalton chili austerity
Dalton boubon (toe / heel perforations only)
Dalton black calf
Dalton burg shell

Long Branch brown
Long Branch black
Long Branch brown shell

Sturgis Bob’s chili
Odenwald chestnut dublin

Bayfield brown shell toe-only perforations
Bayfield brown calf
Bayfield medium brown CXL

Eagle County navy calf
Eagle County merlot calf
Eagle County brown grain

Many of these were ordered and or built during earlier MTO rules.  Some are seconds, clearance or other.

The Park Aves are for my upcoming wedding.  It will be small and casual, but my attire will be immortalized in photos as grey suit w black Park Aves.
-The recent discussions on that topic were helpful.

@jzrhwinnj  that is a lot of shoes...how many feet do you have? Can not wait to see the suede Bleeker

I normally don't wear the same shoe two days in a row, but after all the TLC I gave my shell Daltons last night, I had to wear them today.
