Thanks @rydenfan These will get much more street time like this.  With black welt and edge, they looked like my Dad's shoes.

Hello everyone! I am brand new to the Allen Edmonds fan club, and StyleForum. I have been lurking through this thread as I scouted out my AE purchase. I do have to say, online pictures don't do these shoes any justice. I went in to an AE store yesterday looking for a pair of Rush Streets, and wound up walking out with a pair of Cognac Strands. We were in a hurry, and I was so excited to have my first pair of AE's, that I forgot to inspect the leather. I did try the left shoe of these for fit, and that one looks great. However, 300miles and a day later, I took a look at the right shoe that was housed in the cloth bag and found this:

Should I be concerned? I know all of you have immense experience in AE products. Are these minor variations acceptable for firsts? Thanks for the help!

Also, when I get this all straightened out, I will post some better pictures of the strands and Brown Cronmok's

That black, dark brown, edge dressing would have to go though. Personally.

@csmitty, looks like you and I may be destined to chase the same shoes - we're the same size!   When you tire of some of your stash and I of mine, you and I need to do some trading!

Agreed about the welt and edging.  Chili or lighter would look much better with the whiskey (did AE call it that??) shell.

Happy hunting!

Welcome @TryingToGrowUp

You need to decide if those variations are acceptable.  Did you buy as seconds or firsts?  Those are very minor blemishes for seconds, in my opinion.

You can ship them back to AE for free if firsts, or for $10, if seconds, for an exchange or a refund.  Just don't wear them.

Good luck!

IMO if you are paying first quality money, you should be happy with the way your shoes look. You should have no trouble exchanging them for another pair, especially if you have yet to use them...

How do y'all clean the welts of your shoes? I've got some serious caked dirt on my long branches.

He said they were firsts. I don't really see anything to be upset about. Nothing that a dab of polish can't fix. The sole is a pointless thing to question since they'll scuff away on the first wear. The welt indent is on every single shoe they make as that's where the stitch started and stopped. It's more obvious on some and less on others.

Broke out the walnut shell Daltons today.  Not sure they go with faded denim, but sometimes you just gotta say "what the fu©k" . . .

Not with such huge leg openings and cuffs IMO. Awesome shoes though.

Thanks.  The cuffs and leg openings are not as big IRL as they are in the photo.  I'm a crappy photographer.

I really regret not getting on walnut shell. I wonder how different walnut shell is from whiskey shell? Anybody has picture of these two together?

If I paid $385 for those they would be going back for a replacement. I have seconds quality shoes with far less issues than those.
