hey guys I have been lurking this site for a while and I have picked up a few pairs of Allen Edmond's in calf. I have to say, they are SO much better than the shitty dress shoes I have work before. I used to hate wearing them but now I seriously cant wait to put them on.

Just called the main store today and actually spoke to Brian. I was just looking at getting my first pair of shells and they had a park ave in both black and brown in my size.

Anywho he opened the box and the black one is brand new (but only a return) and the brown has a small wrinkle on the vamp but he said you cant see it. Needless to say I got both...

God damn i need to stop spending money hahaha but shells are +650$ usa normally... and I live in canada. Only about 2 stores where i live sell them and getting a shell would most likely be +700$ (considering the calfs sell for +425 here and never go on sale)

I dont feel so bad spending large amounts on these shoes though. I expect them to last a while with proper care and I think they look 10000x better than low end <200$ shoes.

I am awaiting my new shell park aves... pretty excited!!!!!!

and when i say hate wearing them, i mean dress shoes that were of lesser quality.

Got word of a new 65-last blucher long-wing called the McGregor. Also, I've gotten word that test styles are made in multiple widths!

Having someone in Minnesota scout out new styles would be useful... Volunteers? smile.gif

Are those the McGregors that are on the shoe banks website?

I know we are still in the throes of the shell sale, but can anyone comment on what the Rediscover America sale has offered in terms of deals in the past? Is this the 2 for 300 for seconds sale, or are there other discounts? Thanks!

It would seem likely! There are a lot of them, too, at least 40 in the shoebank.  I wonder if they decided not to manufacture this particular shoe and dumped them all into the shoebank? Maybe it's just hard to make?

I like the idea of trolling the shoebank "unknowns" for new or uncommon styles. Without pictures, it's taking a gamble, though, especially as the unknown shoes never seem to go on sale. AE has made some odd shoes from time to time.

I am starting to suspect that there are shoes that AE makes and decides not to market and they end up either on assorted retail shelves (such as the 6th Ave and, possibly, the Gobi), as a webgem, during a special Nordstrom or JAB sale (see the Acorn Hillfire Neumok), or as a last resort is simply dumped into the shoebank.

It's generally a 14.92% discount on all first-quality items. Some items get a deeper cut. For reference, here is a copy of last year's flyer: http://content.allenedmonds.com/pdf/aerdamailer-2013.pdf

EDIT: seconds might also be on sale, but I can't figure out how much for. Probably 15-30% on all styles.

Thanks--any idea what the next big seconds sale on calfskin will be? I heard from a SA that one will start on 9/18 but I didn't get details.

I went to the Georgia / Clemson game wearing my football grain Patriots a couple of weeks ago.  It's a bit warmer where I am.

Lol I wish I was in Hawaii...Longbranches took a beating but just got home and after a horrific loss to Penn st not cleaning the shoes until morning.

I wonder if it is a re-badged Macneil 5?

I ordered the Norwiches in brown with my mind already thinking towards returning them.  I thought they looked clunky and I couldn't imagine how they could be comfortable.  Low and behold I love them.   As for the post about them being tight, I have some very good evidence that once the elastic stretches a bit they open up quite a bit.  My pair consists of a perfect left shoe and a floor model for the right.  My left foot is about a half size smaller, yet that shoe fits quite well whereas the right fits a bit loose.  I finally realized it must be from the stretch in the strap already worn into the right one.

so...snug now--good later!
