Cognac McTavish is my favorite casual shoe with jeans

Sorry for the low light. Picked them up at Nordstrom rack on a whim because they were $140. I usually am a wide and these are D width but for that price I was willing to stretch them out. They've become one of my favorites.

I have asked for a return label.
It was pre-filled with origin and destination addresses.
My company deals with FedEx daily, so I managed to avoid the drive to the local FedEx dropoff too..

I love the cognac color but hate the distressed look. Have you treated yours with anything, oil? I have seen some people do that to darken the color and distressed look.

Yes in my opinion I would for sure try another width or two higher

Looks like sausages are coming out of their casing! Although the V doesn't have to connect, it should be much much closer. Increase the width.

Agreed. At the very least I would try out the next width before committing to those.

I'm 30 years old. Just because you're young doesn't mean you have to be at the whim of every new trend you see in a magazine or online photo.

Given you mentioned they are "snug," I'd try a wider size.

However, I'd caution against putting too much focus on the angle of the "V." Folks with a high instep can have a great fit but still have a V shape with oxfords (believe me, I know). If the widest part of the ball of your foot is in the widest part of the shoe, and you have no heel gap, and everything feels comfortably snug, then your shoes fit, regarding of the angle of the V.

Having said that, if cosmetically it bugs you, you might consider a similar design in a blucher.

All this prompts a question: can someone weigh in as to which AE loafer looks the "least bad" for one with high arches? I'm a 10.5E in several #5 last shoes. The Patriot in 11D is very difficult to even get on and, once done, looks awful or laughable, depending on which family member is voicing her opinion. Thoughts? Any help would be appreciated.

Even though I now mainly wear English made shoes now, like Alfred Sargent, I reckon I should still pay homage to Allen Edmonds.

I have 2 pairs of AEs, Park Avenue and Kenilworth. They are my first pairs of quality shoes, with their excellent online foot measuring guide, my online purchase went well and all of the shoes I wear now are purchased online.

For their price, their finishing are actually better than Loakes, and even Tricker's bench grade, and good solid classic designs. So I do wear each one of them on a fortnightly bases as a part of my shoe rotation.

This is true. Fortunately I don't have the issue, but for some it comes down to a question of the last being a good fit for your foot. You can find balmorals with higher insteps than the 5-last. Granted, they may me more money and be from other manufacturers, but if the gap in the lacing looks bad to you then it may be worth consideration. Don't resort to a shoe that doesn't fit well simply because you want your lacing gap to look better. You will suffer more in the long run.
