Allen Edmonds Appreciation Thread - reviews, pictures, sizing, etc... - Page 3204

I have around 400 dollars to spend, so that rules out bespoke shoes.

If I can't make anything from allen edmonds work, I'll have to delay purchase another 2 weeks and buy something from Alden on the Barry last, which fits me like a dream at 9 1/2D.

Would anyone be interested in a basically (only worn on carpet) new pair of seconds quality brown cordovan Strands in size 9D?

Want to see if anyone is interested before I send them back to AE. Please PM if interested. Bought at the shell sale price.

Sorry if this is not allowed mods. Just want to give this thread a head's up before I post on Marketplace or just send them back to AE for a refund.

Unforunately the Barrie last and dress balmorals are polar opposites.

I'm a perfect 9.5D in the Barrie and 9.5E in most AE lasts (e.g., 5, 7, and especially 1).  Couldn't tell from your posts whether you'd tried that size in addition to the others.

Good to know, that's very helpful, thank you.

Today I tried on Strands in a 9, 9 1/2, 10, 10 1/2.

None worked.

The 9 was the only shoe that put the ball of my foot in the vicinity of the wide part of the insole, and had my toes crammed together so tightly they were starting to buckle up and overlap each other at the ends, haha.

When my toes were not crammed in, and my instep was not threatening to rip the vamp off the insole, then the ball of my foot was WAY behind the widest part of the insole.

Dude the 5 last is super narrow. Try and E, EE, or EEE.

Thank you. I checked out the page on lasts on the AE website, and this is the kind of info I'm looking to get before I go on a long quest via parcel post.

Many go down .5 size and up a width on the 65. I measure 8E on the Brannock and have found that 7.5EE fits me best on the 65 last. Like you, one of my feet is a half size bigger so one foot is perfect while the other a little loose but at the end of the day nothing a tongue pad can't fix.

This counts as a shoe pic, right?

My Walnut shell Daltons in the very bottom left...

There is noplace within a 2 hour drive that sells Allen Edmonds, except the store I visited today, and they only had two shoes, both on the 65 last, and only in D.

This is very frustrating to me. I want to buy a quality, American made shoe, and it's upsetting that I either have to order 8-10 shoes online and return 9 of them, or drive 2-5 hours away to try on shoes....

So, I'm hoping I can maybe get a starting point and some advice from some of you.

I measure a 9.5 D on my right foot, and a 10 D on my right foot on a brannock device.

I suppose I'm going to have to take an entire weekend and spend it driving just to try on some Allen Edmonds, or else just go with a shotgun approach online....

I go up one width on the 5 last. It seems most do, at least, some go up two. Try an E and/or EE.

I also find the Barrie last very comfortable in 9.5 D. The 5 last is comfortable (not as much as the Barrie but certainly acceptable) in 10 E. I know everyone is different, but try a 10 E.

Maybe, depending on what you have going on in any particular day. I wear mine with gray and charcoal suits, occasionally navy. I usually favor burgundy or dark brown, and pretty much go with walnut or black as a change of pace.

Love these despite the creasing below the captoe line.

Creases or no, those are f@&$ing killer. Why won't AE do something with their navy calf?

I came very close to getting these today. The wife wasn't having it though, not with a recent addition to the family.

I am pretty sure that your dog is big enough to wear your Shell Dalton's. Though I would probably stick with Calf myself.
