Allen Edmonds Appreciation Thread - reviews, pictures, sizing, etc... - Page 3173

Greetings gentlemen,

So I was really excited that I finally got my first pair of Allen Edmonds (Park Avenue)...!  And then it was a total kill-joy when I realized there was a huge crease/indention on one of the shoes.  I ordered these at Nordstrom and had them shipped to my house since they didn't have my size.

So, I am seeking your advice.  Should I return these immediately? Or is this not a big deal, and the leather will warp back into place (for lack of a better word)?  It's a hassle to have to return them and wait for them to arrive again, but I definitely do not want to keep them if they are permanently damaged.

I'd greatly appreciate your thoughts and advice.  Thank you!

Dang guys, all them Walnut Shell Dalton's look sweet! I have not gotten a single note on my bnib pair, not even a low ball offer, so I think I am going to just add them to my rotation... I don't know why, but I thought that they would sell quick provided their popularity and lack of availability, but I guess not...

PCV, Walnut Shell and Walnut Calf are completely different beasts.... Both are awesome, but I have a propensity for Shell...

Yes, exchange them. Nordstrom has a very liberal return policy.

Nothing special. Sandlots with team logo. Heading to the ball park after work for a work gathering. Plus it's casual Friday. Didn't wear my jersey though.

I don't guess anybody has a pair of 8.5d or 8.5e shell Townleys which they are ready to part with?

I guess it's the unobtainable factor of the walnut shell. It does feel like more of an impulse purchase versus the Marlows which I've wanted for about a year now. Decisions, decisions.....:decisions:

I just traded in my Marlows a couple of weeks ago toward the purchase of Cappuccino MacNeils, the fit of the Marlow was just wrong for me. Sounds like you follow that thread closely- I picked mine up from Chipshot a bit more than a year ago. He got them TTS which for him was 9.5 and they were too large for him. I am a 10 so purchased them from him but the fit on my feet always seemed "off" to me so I almost never wore them. I have never had any luck with European lasts and the Alden Barrie last is a poor fit for me also. Beautiful shoe but if it doesn't fit well doesn't do me much good sitting in the closet. Good luck no matter which way you decide to go!

For those that remember last year's Seconds-gate scandal with Nordstrom's Anniversary sale, interesting that we have not hear of any similar quality control issues this year.

Olive Suede Graysons. A casual Friday indeed.

Last year I picked up both burgundy and brown shell Patriot seconds, IIRC paid $299 each. The only issue with them was the soles were not done well and weren't symmetrical on either pair. Don't think most people notice but it has been bothering me. So I sent my burgundy ones to Nick at B. Nelson to have JR soles done in antique edge finish. Got them back earlier this week and have been breaking them back in, very pleased with the results and the job he did.

I picked up a pair of Park Aves from ebay for $56. The seller listed them cheaply because she couldn't remove a white scuff from one of the toes. I tried every trick I could find on the Internet, but it wasn't until I resorted to nail polish remover and a Q-tip that it finally came off. I then spent the rest of the day adding light coats of black polish to the shoes, letting them dry and buffing, and repeating the process until they started to look decent.

Delivered:

After 4-5 light coats of polish:

I plan to continue working on them over the weekend. I obviously wanted new Park Aves, but I never bought a pair because I knew I'd rarely wear them - I always ended up buying a different shoe. I am psyched to finally have a pair of Park Aves! It feels like the last hole in my shoe game is filled and I can now sleep at night. smile.gif
