I bought a pair of walnut Jefferson seconds during the sale.  I was appalled when I opened the box -- the leather was splotchy and wrinkled in prominent places, the bottom of the cut in the leather for the laces was dented inward, and the lining by the heel of one of the shoes was so deformed I could feel it through my sock.  I've bought a few pair of AE seconds before, and I realize that the reduced price is to compensate for less than perfect aesthetics, but this was way more than I had experienced before.  (Also, the bottom of the shoes are slippery as all hell on my carpet, but I think it'll get better when I give them a treating of pavement scratches.)

I was strongly considering returning them (or haggling with an AE rep to try to pay extra to return them and upgrade to firsts), but the more I look at them on my feet, the more I'm growing to love them.  The leather is ~much~ nicer than my black McAllisters'.  It's supple and so aromatic I can smell it while wearing the shoes.  The welt isn't contrast colored, but it has notches of a lighter color and looks great.  They feel much more comfortable, too; I think it might be the lining.  Even the splotches and wrinkles have grown on me in the last few hours; they make the shoes unique.

I might call tomorrow and get a pair of black Harrisons, even though I have a pair of black Park Avenues -- it's a real upgrade.

I believe there is an upgrade in the leather, the soles and the lining. It's also on a different last (333) with a somewhat elongated and squared toe. Wearing my Harrisons today!

Should I wear my Randolphs with chino shirts and a polo? Or are they too dressy. They're burgundy cordo, and my only loafers.

Apologies for the skinny, hairy legs.

If you're going to wear loafers with shorts, I think they need to be much more casual and rough looking.  It's partly the pasty white ankles, but that look screams middle aged guy on a business trip who forgot to bring shoes to wear with his shorts.

I would wear them with shorts and a shirt, but not with a polo. I would also not wear those orange socks with them.

Haha. Yeah my other loafer socks are in the laundry. That's all that's left. I'm just running errands in the neighborhood.

Much obliged!

Ha!! Well I agree (except that I'm 35 and not middle aged yet) that's why I was on the fence. I ended up wearing my sneakers anyway.

I don't think I'm going to keep these Randolph's. Too dressy for casual and too casual for dressy. Anyone interested? They're 10.5 3E.

I have been finding shell tougher and tougher to wear that casually. I would probably wear my brown CXL dovers before shell. I'm not a huge fan of bluchers with shorts, but it works and seems to be in style! haha

I guess I was just trying to find an actual use for them to justify not selling.

Turns out I really don't like the look of loafers with suits or even biz casual (on me), so I'm out of options.

I agree. Loafers don't agree with me for fit reasons, but I really don't like them for business casual either. With that said...what size are they??? LMAO! lurker[1].gif
