Hmmm....very interesting.

Seems as though something corrosive has gotten on them.

If AE says no to refurb for them, then you could, as a last ditch effort, take them to a competent cobbler and as him his opinion on what can be done.

So nice.  I may regret not having gotten a pair of those.

Hey all,

Can someone tell me whether or not these Brooks Brothers shoes are made by AE?  They look just like Strands:

http://www.brooksbrothers.com/Medallion-Perforated-Captoes/MH00025,default,pd.html?dwvar_MH00025_Color=MDBR&contentpos=20

How can you tell which brand Brooks Brothers shoes are from?

Thanks!

Hate quoting my own post, but not a single opinion on these new Web Gems? I like them, but would like others to chime in.

Since you asked for opinions, I will chime in. It is a confused and awful shoe. Get a WT blucher if you are looking for something casual.

Yeah those are AE, but they removed all branding from the website to label them as AE. Strange.

Yeah, that's reparable.  That said, the time and cost involved vary enormously: sometimes, if the leather is intact and there's enough there to work with, it can be done really quickly; if the leather tore out of the seam, or if there wasn't quite enough to begin with, it'll take a little more doing, up to the point of completely resoling the shoes, which is what had to happen after I blew out my Filsons in exactly the same spot.

Still, given that you got them for free (lucky sod!) it'll be a worthwhile investment.  Not knowing Chicago beyond The Blues Brothers and the inside of its hockey arenas, I can't be of help beyond that.

Thanks for the info!

Dammit, me too... but I am enjoying the Rush Streets -- they did turn out to be a good fit on me.

I was really wanting to pull the trigger on the recent sales, but after coming back from Disney (for my lovely 3 year old daughter, she loved it!), buying more clothes, and getting 4 AE belts... I think I needed a little break for a few.

Breaking in my new (to me only) shell Macs in the studio tonight. I know the laces are awful (these didn't come with any and that's what I had spare), and the lacing method is different on each, just trying out different techniques to get the best fit.

Three rounds of polish removal with Reno later and a 12x12 cloth ruined, the Strands are finally showing signs of bare cordovan goodness. Lots of great variation in the color now which I love about cordovan. They change tones no matter what angle you look at them.

Good Job Bro!  :fonz:

Here's what mine look like:

The fit is slightly off and even with that they are ridiculously comfortable!

I am waiting to get a custom pair made very soon!

I post the pic to show the variations in color on mine as well.  They are about a year old and have had Venetian Shoe Cream applied regularly and LOTS of horse hair brushing!

They exchanged my calf walnut strands when the finish came off. I'd worn them 2-3 times when it happened. No questions asked. Send an email and pictures to shoebank

I actually thought about getting the rush streets when they first came out but held off. I wasn't sure how it would look but you rock it well! Thanks, I certainly will especially after I messed up my sizing on my rancourt custom loafers 😭

Over under method on left shoe? I'm trying it out on my boots. It definitely works better on flat laces than leather laces.
