Ordered some Chili Strands and Walnut McAllisters from the Tent Sale yesterday.  I see that the Chili Strands are no longer listed on the full price website.  Wonder if they've been discontinued?

Anyway, really hope I like the color and the shoes are in good shape.  I need something to go with my lighter gray pants.

Tried to get some burgundy shell macneil today. You guys are dirtbags. Well played.

Yesterday, when the Tent Sale email arrived, there were Brown Grain Kiowas (Strands with Vibram Lug Soles) for $179.00.  I looked at the Shoebank and the regular Allen Edmonds websites, but there were no Kiowas listed.

I called and asked, and was told that Kiowas weren't on either website, but they had them in stock, so I ordered a pair of Brown Grain Kiowas.

I guess the moral of this story is if you don't see what you want on either website, call and ask if they are in stock.

Honestly when I first got my macs I didn't like them at all. I felt pressured into buying them for some reason by the sales guy. Then I grew to love them and now I see them as a future weekend shoe once I buy a couple of pairs of more flexible shoes.

After that I really want brown shell strands but I don't have the funds for that and I still need to build up my work shoe rotation. So I am thinking maybe two more shoes for that. I think it will include

a Clifton (burgundy is nice) and maybe a pair of strands in whatever color I don't choose for the Lexingtons. Strateeegery!

They have a few walnut grain PA's right now too. I think they're such awesome shoes, but occupy a bastard-child-like niche in the wardrobe. Like, tan would look awesome with navy, but they're grained bals. I think that would be a bit bizarre.

I like them a lot thought, just question how often it'd be possible to wear them!

What do you guys think of the tan 'chelsea' boot? Another one of those shoes that looks cool but has little utility?

Navy how? As part of a city suit? That would be bad.

Some kind of navy trouser with an odd jacket? Yep, but you'd have to walk a line between elegance and ruggedness with the rest of what you had on, since the shoes sort of have one foot in both camps.

Tan chelseas could be very useful, at least in my wardrobe. I don't like the AE Ashbury, though. Too casual.

I was thinking navy pants/slacks and tweed odd jackets.

thanks.

I find that they are the same length. I size down one in width from the 5-65 last to the 8-108 last, but could imagine that many people would not need to do so.

Great to hear from you again, CI. It's quite remarkable how much this thread has grown since the early days. I have become much more of a reader than poster as well. Hope you enjoy the Minnesota summer. It's already in the mid 90's here.

For those who just can't abide a "casual bal", yes, problematic.  Otherwise, a perfectly good casual shoe.

They look awesome when wearing jeans and chino's. I realize most here are on the formal end but I'm one of the few who is "casual" compared to others in this thread.

I've thought long and hard about the chili Strands in the past, but ultimately decided I didn't need another calf bal.  Would love to see pics when you get them.

I got my hands on a pair of the PAs during the last seconds sale.  I loved the look, but like you I had a hard time envisioning when I would wear them - plus they were really rough even for seconds.  So, back they went.

Tell me about it! After a few months of not being able to keep up, I finally just skipped ahead. We'll see if I can keep my head above water...

I believe these were only sold as WebGems.

Shoe Care:

I have recently purchased several pairs of AEs and I have some questions about care.

1. Can I use regular Kiwi polish I have always used or do I need to buy cream from AE?

2. I have just regular horsehair brushes. Are these recommended?

3. Sole/heel dressing. AE brand only? How hard to match browns like Chili?

1.Depending on the color you do not HAVE TO buy AE cream. I use Meltonian cream on calf AE. Kiwi is fine, too.
2.I don't know what you mean by "regular", but no special brushes are needed.
3.I use shoe cream for edge dressing. Most of my lighter edge soles really don't need the color touched up so I use neutral cream then a coat or two of neutral wax for protection.
