Macs are the only pair of AEs I currently own so I should feel bad but the more I read and the more I try to wear them with different things, I know exactly what you mean. IMO they are great with some khakis/button down and okay with jeans but I feel funny wearing some BB dress pants with them. the rough look just doesn't work well. No one probably cares but it bothers me.

I hope to get another pair of (less conflicted) shoes soon.

Pro: -leather sole (at least I am not rocking goofy thick rubber soles like on haans).

        -nice shape (I like the rounded toe. it is not square and tacky and it is not pointy)

        -they fit perfectly and feel great with a short break in

        -cognac color is pretty nice

        -they has served as a gateway drug to better shoes

con-the "rough" leather just doesn't let you dress them up.

      -even though a casual shoe people thing they are wing tips and therefore dressy

      -contrast stitching (I didn't notice before and now I wish they didn't have it)

There are more pros and cons I am sure but all that said, they have been good to me overall.

McTavish were my first AE as well. As I started getting really into shoes I realized how contradicting to themselves they were. I recently sold them on after not being worn for over a year.

I wear them almost exclusively in poor weather conditions now.

The better shoes I have get saved for the better weather.

Not dressy IMHO . . . the only thing that makes them (mildly) conflicted is the fact that they are bals.  Consider:

* split-reverse welt

* double sole

* rough leather

* wingtip (broguing is less dressy, not more)

For those who just can't abide a "casual bal", yes, problematic.  Otherwise, a perfectly good casual shoe.

+1, 1/8th. If they were a derby, I'd probably have a couple pairs.

hows does the 108 last (mora 2.0s) compare to the 65 last (park, 5th, strand)? looking to make an order but can only try on 65 last products
thanks.

This is the half-yearly clearance sale.

The yearly Anniversary sale should be next month, and contains good non- clearance items, even some fall preview stuff.

An inspection of this shell Dalton turned up the... Scratch? Cut? Beginning of a hole/tear? Thoughts on whether or not this will increase in size? It is at a point where it seems there would be some flexing of the leather. Should it go back?

Uh yes. Send that shit back.

I would contact customer service to see if there is something AE can do to repair this before just sending them back.

I generally agree with your points on the McT - most are obviously a casual shoe, balmoral or not.  That walnut pair, though, looks too much like a really beaten up pair of dress shoes.

Mora 2.0s are wider IME.

That's exactly what I did; initially I was just offered a return label - I'm wondering if the plan is to put them back on the website to see if someone else would just accept the issue... But I did a little more inquiry and am waiting for some feedback from the shoebank to see if there's another option for me.
