I think they look awesome but even on this thread I'd say that they're considered a "second-tier" purchase option after the "first tier" of Walnut Strand, Black PA, Merlot/Burgundy/#8 wingtip (MacNeil/Cambridge/McAllister).

Arguably by "The Rules" a wing is less formal than a cap, levels of broguing being equal, so you'd think that the Walnut McA' would get at least as much love or even more than the Walnut Strand (especially since they're both bals, rendering lacing formality a "push").

Anyway yours are great... wear them well!

'Tis the season -- finally incorporating last February's burgundy shell Graysons into the workweek. These are the only narrow-legged summer pants I've got; must pick up a couple pair of tapered linen trousers. I plan to avoid the sockless look, at least in the (biz-casual) office.

These were by far the dandiest shoes on the bus this morning. Feels like I've got to go slim-cut everything and break out the hipster rx shades to pull it off, what with being vehemently against DC's sack-suit-with-tassels stereotype.

Great looking shoe!

Quite curious how you sized the shell Grayson compared to the calf Grayson or maybe a calf 65-lasted shoe?

I can be of no help here -- all my shoes are 14AA regardless of last. This far off the scale, I'm pretty content that the size even exists. smile.gif

There's a tiny bit of play in the heel compared to my calf Park Avenues... so in a perfect world I'd probably be a 13.5AA, but that isn't a thing.

I do 11.5D in 65 last. Tried on a Grayson in store, I think it was a calf one actually now that I think about it. Found the 12C worked well. I measure a 12D, but tend to the narrow range of the D.

Just some background:

For the past few years, my company required me to wear black suits to work so I basically have no other colors (Working on those right now).

Really enjoyed reading about the different Allen Edmond shoes and I've decided to give it a go (Have mostly black oxfords but time to get some brown or burgundy shoes!)

I like the Strands a lot and went to try some at Nordstrom.  The 10.5D in a Park Ave was slightly long in length (Can put a finger in the back) and pretty good on the width.  The 10 strand fit like a glove for length but the width was slightly tight.

They let me try a clifton in 10EEE (only large width they had).  The width was big but what surprised me was that I could put my thumb in the back of that shoe.  Does this run larger than a Strand or perhaps I need a larger width and smaller size than a 10 in strand?

I was thinking if the cliftons run large, perhaps I should get a strand in 10E?

Just an FYI: They told me the clifton should be on sale in 2 weeks for the semi annual sale but the strand won't…

Thanks so much!

AE uses a variety of different lasts to form their shoes around. The Stand uses the 5-65 last, typically called the 5-last. The Cliffton uses the 8-last. The 8-last has a more generous and full toe and AE recommends that people size down when getting them, this why you experienced. This is similar to Alden and it's Barrie last.

First, and most importantly, I requested a chili welt as opposed to dark brown. I'm thinking there is too much contrast between the welt and the edge. Second, and not as importantly, I requested wheeled/fudged edges, but they obviously forgot to do this.

Once I get these sorted out, I think my suede undertaking will be complete. Beginning with MTO navy suede strands, then MTO Olive suede Graysons, to these MTO Grey suede Mora 2.0 (on top of the suede players' and neumok), I'm ready to come up with additional models to MTO.

As a follow up to my earlier post, Allison offered to remake the shoes or allow me to have them for $129, which is a huge discount. What do you all think?

Take the discount.

I would darken the edge slightly, so it isn't as bold.

The fudging isn't that important... As you stated.

Seems to me that you go the MTO route for a reason. You want to construct a shoe exactly as you desire. If these don't meet your qualifications, I'd return it and have them make it as you wished. I'd only keep them at a reduced price if the changes made were what you deem inconsequential.

129???? Jeebus. That's a crazy deal.

Keep for 129

I'm with OptoDoc.  You pursued an MTO for a reason.  I personally would rather pay the full MTO price and get exactly what you want.

I agree with this.

It seems like opinions are across the board here, which doesn't come as much of a surprise. Thank you all for your inputs! I'm not yet sure what I'm going to do, because I'd rather not wait another 1-2 months for the remade ones. Decisions...

The specs don't seem that off. $129 first-quality shoes? Easy decision for me.

If you really want another pair, I'm sure many members can take it off your hands for a nice little profit.
