I know this in some ways defeats the purpose of the Independence, but I recently placed an MTO for a Rutledge in black shell.  I wanted a black shell dress shoe and at the moment neither Alden nor Carmina have anything like what I'm looking for (don't know about C&J).  And, the Rutledge last is comfy for me and looks sleek as hell.  Of course, I will post specs and pics when they arrive.

I made the Harrison's in Black Shell and the Jefferson's in Cappuccino Shell. I also made a Brown Shell Independence Strand. I highly recommend them. The special treatments of the Independence Collection is awesome, even if you upgrade to a Shell Cordovan upper.

Thank you! I think I'm only currently jonesing for a suede chukka. I had to return the Amoks I bought for super cheap because they were too narrow (even in 3E). So now I'm biding my time.

How is that not just the University?

I start working this summer! For those of you who have a good sense of AE offerings, what two shoes (1 black, 1 brown) would you recommend buying for my first professional shoes?

I'm a fan of the park avenues.

What profession are you in, do you wear suits or business casual? There will be many suggestions based on what you need, it's hard to just throw out blanket options.

Agree, I have the University and these are the same, just different outsole (leather instead of Dainite sole)

Completely forgot that detail.

I'll be in consulting, so we'll be in suits unless the client requests us to be casual.

I own the following:

Park Avenue (Black);

Brooks Fifth Ave (Dark Brown);

Strand (Walnut);

McAllister (Black);

Larchmont (Chocolate);

Kenilworth (Black);

Bayfield (Brown CXL).

It seems like I've got the basics covered, but I've never worn loafers and might want to pick up a pair or two next time I see them on sale.

Any thoughts on what might be a go-to loafer for an East coast attorney?

Im not big on loafers, but whenever I get my first obligatory pair, it will probably be the Torrance.  Sleek, elegant, simple, understated and modern....its really the only loafer Ive ever really actually fancied.

I've heard talk on these forums about the Randolph and the Patriot -- but I just looked up and like the Torrance, too.

I'll probably base my decision largely around which last fits me best; I imagine fit is a lot more important for a loafer, what with there being no laces and all.

Any style of penny loafer is a classic east coast look. A tassel loafer like the Grayson is also a nice option as well.
