They all look great. Love the Walnut Rutledges. Question- is there a reason you use the Mens Warehouse trees in your loafers?

I received my first two ever "seconds" today from the Shoe Bank. I think I'm quite pleased but just had a few questions and would appreciate your opinions.

The Elgins look great and considering AE no longer sells them and I don't see them on BB's site anymore, I'm happy at $179. I can see why they are seconds but none of the flaws bother me or can't be cured with a few minutes of care. I got the same size as I take in the McAllister - 7.5E. Some have said that the "rough" collection of leather run a bit large and these seem to hold true to that. However, my problem has always been that my left is 1/2 larger than my right. So, in the McAllister my left is a little snug and the right is perfect. In the Elgin my left is perfect and my right may be slightly loose. My question is this... in looking at the picture below, you can see that the laces are very close together on the right shoe. Once this shoe breaks in should I worry that I won't be able to tighten them enough. What's others' experience with shoes in general when they fit like this out of the box?



The Sheltons I also received today seem to clearly be a case of someone buying them, wearing them around the house for a few hours and then returning them. There are creases across both vamps and the bottoms are slightly roughed up. I guess the upside is that they appear to be "firsts" that only became "seconds" because they were returned. I can't see anything at all wrong with them. The downside is I'm wondering since they are already creased if now they won't crease on my lines and either be uncomfortable or have weird extra creases. Should I worry about that? Is it normal for "seconds" to be pre-owned or are they typically just flawed in some other way?

Shoe trees are said to be the number one shoe care accessory to purchase. It's ok to ask questions, want to make sure you get it right.

Not really, I had them previously and didn't feel like getting more AE trees. Maybe I'll switch them out to some AE trees at some point in the future, but there really isn't any reason. They get the job done. And yeah, the Walnut Rutledges are pretty awesome. Probably my favorite AE shoe.

I'm very happy with my Webgem Daltons and am Mac Method breaking them in already. The above (Gwinnett) appear to be just like a Dalton except it's a medallion PCT rather than a WT. And I might hazard a guess that's it's on the 5-last rather than the 1-last.

Here are the new Daltons. I love the color.

Pic shoes your pants cuffed? Is that how you always wear your pants with Dalton's? I have 2 pairs of Long Branch and am considering a pair of Dalton's but curious if I would need to cuff my pant legs to show 'em off

Nah, lol!! I'm not that fashion-forward. They're cuffed because they're too long and I don't want to hem them (if I do) till I wash/soak them. Standing up, the cuffed hem covers the ankle quarters to where they pretty much look like shoes. But if you wear pretty skinny jeans and want to be "out there", by all means cuff them higher. I just can't do that. Just not me.

I have the same problem, with my left foot about a half size larger than the right. In the case where I have a pair of shoes that fit the left foot well, I have put a tongue pad in the right shoe and that has improved the fit quite a bit and makes the gap in the laces match the left foot. If you don't think you could go any smaller (7.5D?) due to your left foot, the tongue pad may help. I have a pair of McTavish's that started out with a small gap in the laces (about a half inch at the top) and after many wears that has closed. So at least in my experience there was some closing of the gap, but I don't think any more than a tongue pad would add. So you may just want to try a pad and see what it does.

You could probably close the gap a little more if you use the "Straght Bar Lacing" or "Over Under Lacing" methods from this website. Both of these lacing methods would allow the gap to close completely.
