Any way to stop leather squeak? It seems like the tongue is rubbing on the upper portion of the leather.

Yes:

It solved a horrible squeak in a pair of vintage Irish Wallabees that I own and had stopped wearing due to the issue. Just sprinkle it and dust it about.

Also, great for your nads in warm weather. No gent should be without it.

Really hope these work out as they pretty much hit the main three suedes I would need...until I decide to add Olive...

Fashion question for those with an eye for these things...The Spiaggia has that orange sole and the Strandmok has the white with that green band...do you take these colors into consideration at all when pairing the shoes with pants/shirts etc?

Uggggghhh...so these blue beauties came in today and the right heal still feels like there is a lump...not as big but I almost feel like I got the same pair back...lol. Not sure what to think..can it be the sole itself? Something in this design that just does not like my right foot? Rather annoyed since I let the sale pass without doing an MTO for a Lexington Blue Suede....I am going to wear them in the house for a few hours tonight to see if that helps.

On a side note I did almost pull the trigger on a pair of Rancourt Cap toe Blake Blue Suede boots today

His Nads?..... ;) I use AE leather lotion on my squeaky shoes and seems to do the trick fairly well.

Yes, it is lightly scented and I really like it. But the scent isn't strong enough to detect if you just sprinkle some on your shoes.

PSA:  If you're the kind of person (like me) who's happy to wear boots year-round, the Bayfield seems to be available in a few more sizes - and on sale too:

I think we share the same issue; is yours this bad? I was going to keep, but there are other pairs available, so I have options...

Even with the fold and the slight bowing, they still look pretty good:

What's with the left shoe mishaps? My right is perfect...

I think the bowing on mine is slightly less than what I'm seeing on yours.  It was definitely something I was willing to live with, plus it is was only on the right shoe.  The left one was perfect.  It's the big crease on the left shoe that's bothering me. There's also a crease on the right shoe, but much less visible (I could have lived with that one too).

Is it just me or is there a color change in the uppers of your shoes?  Maybe it's just the lighting of the pic...

Alright, can somebody break down the different welt-types as to which are higher quality from best to worst? For example, I pretty much only know Goodyear 360 and 270, but I'm not sure which one is "better". I know that the 270 looks sleeker, but does is give up quality for that extra 90 degrees? How is that 90 degrees attached to the shoe?

I'm asking this because I'm seeing quite a bit of talk about the Blake welting over the last few pages. Where does that play in?

Also, I stopped in my local AE store at the Somerset Collection in Michigan over the weekend, and I decided to take a pass at the Salvatore Ferragamo store right next door. Their shoes are very sleek. Anyone know what kind of welt they use? Also, anyone know why AE only uses Goodyear 360?

On that note, what do Alden, EG, C&J, etc. use?

I know...lots of questions in there.

Can anyone enlighten me on the difference between the normal collection and the Independence collection? Besides the outsole, of course.

For instance, the Mcallister vs the Jefferson?

The  leather on the Indy is line is a different beast all together- very soft, the interior lining is upgraded the interior footbed is somewhat cushioned....overall a better made shoe.

Ferragamo has different lines, the studio line (lowest) is cemented and not welted at all. The tramezza (top) is good year welted it can be a decent buy if you can find them on sale. I would imagine the main line could be blake stitched but I am not 100% sure.

There is not a difference in quality in regards to 270 vs 360 degree stitched welts merely an aesthetic choice.

Generally good year welted shoes are easier to resole and thus appear more often in the good ole USA. Resoling a blake stitched shoe requires the cobbler to have a specialized machine to do so. Only AE can say why they choose gyw shoes but it is worthing noting they have a robust re-crafting business.
