I found an awesome pair of cordovan shoes on ebay in my size, I made the first bid for 39.99... no bids for like 3 days... Then on the last day of the auction, my wife (pregnant) suddently has to go to the hospital... After 6-7 hours at the hospital we find out nothing is wrong, they send us home, I drop off my wife and go straight to work...log on to ebay right away... AND THE AUCTION ENDS LIKE 10 MINUTES BEFORE I LOGGED ON!!!! (with 2 people having outbid me by 1 dollar or so at the last minute... SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MAD RIGHT NOW!:censored::brick::cloud:

Me with no sleep, no food, and no AE cordovan loafers = NOT HAPPY!

ok.... feel free to bug me about posting something that is only somewhat relevant to this thread...

You might want to consider using an eBay bidding service, like eSnipe, in the future.

I actually really like my grey McTavish! My second most worn pair of AE. But only with dark casual denim. Great beater shoe for dive bars, especially since I got them for $129 on duper-clearance.

You realize that essentially all of ebay auctions actually happen in the last hour, right? If you were comfortable spending more, you should have upped the max bid!

My point wasn't that they outbid me... I would have bid again and again... The only problem was... I was stuck at the hospital while the auction ended... I'm blaming nobody but myself and my bad luck...

I really wish this had a brogued toe cap :( oh well will have to suffer with these :) Having pulled my bourbon Fifth Ave's out it is going to be tough to sell them... With Bourbon Dalton's and Bourbon Mora 2.0 I just do not see the Park's getting much use...

Outside of the Banchory...which is like wearing a slipper this Jefferson fits perfect...I went up a width than I normally wear and with the poron sole they are a dream..it is honestly going to make me re-evaluate the fit of all my other AE's. I see why they were seconds and it is so minor.

Now the question becomes do I sell my walnut MacNeil's or get them shoe guards and turn them into an all weather type shoe... Will post a few pics soon

Both pics were taken with flash so colors are much more red in the photos above

Here is no flash below indoors and more represenative of the true color

The color differential is nuts. Can you take some in natural light?

The moras just look dirty in the flash picture :/

As an aside, what size do you wear?

Thanks! They looked smaller for some reason.

I want your opinion on something.

I plan to purchase a pair of McAllister during the sale, then later on a pair of Strand. They will both be worn with slacks for business casual settings.

I already have Black PA and Brown Delray so to add more diversity to my collection. I am eliminating those 2 colors for now.

Also I consider McAllister and Strand to nearly the same shoe so I do not want to get the same color. So that leaves

McAllister: Chili, Walnut, Merlot, Bourbon (avaliable at Nordstrom)

Strand: Walnut, Bourbon

I am thinking of one pair with redish hue (Chili and Merlot) then one pair with brownish hue (Bourbon and Walnut)?

What do you guys think of those 4 colors?

I think you have a solid plan. I think Walnut for the Strand and Merlot for the McAllister would be the common (and best IMO) choices.

Isn't the following most common for AE's signature 5-last?

PA - Black
FA - Dark Brown
Macallister - Merlot
Strand - Walnut

Throw in a pair of boots or some suede shoes and those are probably the only shoes you'll ever need from a minimalist point of view.

Man am I tempted to buy these Strand golf shoes, remove the spikes, fill in the holes, and wear them as regular dress shoes. I own a pair of Strands and they are my favorite shoes. They have really gone up in price over the years, so $199 is quite appealing. I play a ton of golf and I don't feel like they would be comfortable enough for me to wear for 18 holes. Although I love my current Strands, I would not say they are as comfortable as my golf shoes.

The spike holes are lined metal and way to close to the surface for that- isn't a sole conversion only $50? I agree on this last it is an awesome shoe.
