I have the same size in the Clifton and Vernon (both 8 last, though the Vernon is a balmoral). The Clifton does fit a bit looser even when tightened quite a bit, so I think I could have easily gone with a 1/2 size down and been fine.

The nice thing about Blucher/derby shoes is that they have a lot of room for adjustment. I'm a small guy with size 7D and 6.5E feet, and the Clifton in 7D is a little loose for me but that is fixed by tying a little tighter. For reference I wear 7D in the 5 last (Park ave, Strand..)

This is the guy who had a super wide gap wearing a size 7D walnut strand. I took the forum's advice and moved down half a size and wider and exchanging it for a 6.5E. Here's how it looks like: The ball of my feet still feels like it's on the widest part of the shoe, which was also true for size 7D. My toes aren't cramped together but the circled area and the upper area feels pretty tight. It's also a lot harder for me to slip my foot in the shoe even with a shoe horn. The tongue gets pushed down and my socks get scrunched back when I put on the shoes making for a tight feel and uncomfortable experience putting my foot in. Plus the gap is still there albeit a little smaller. The picture makes it appear wider than it seems. In reality, the gap still exist but perhaps not as wide. Should I go back to size 7? And with that, EE? Or would 7E be wider than 6.5E? No gap would be the ideal look so should I keep raising the width until it closes up completely?
You need 6.5eee or 7eee.

I just picked up a few pairs of shoes from the Memorial Day Sale. Turns out the Brooks Fifth Ave Brown in 10.5 has a blemish that I can't live with so it's going back unless you all think I could fix this very easily:

Definitely return. I'm not even sure that should have been allowed to be called a factory second.

For comparison, here's a picture of my burgundy shell Kenilworth's with a single sole that I'm wearing today.

1) What brand of socks are they? And where did you find them? (Like the look of the fabric)

2) What color of Edge Polish do you use on your shoes, and what brand? And did the shoes have the original Edge color to them as I see?

Can someone offer some input? Im really on the fence about the brown malvern chukka. Here on the nordstrom website, it is listed as brown grain and has a smooth appearance I really enjoy:

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/allen-e...ferralID=03a24a8b-bcbc-11e2-9389-001b2166c62d

But on amazon you can clearly see the embossed grain pattern, which is way uglier:

The more I look at it the more Im thinking the nordstrom listing is incorrect...

They are definitely different boots. I agree with your conclusion - the Nordstrom listing picture is incorrect.

Tomorrow during the day time, go to the AE site, click on the CHAT, and ask the rep to look at your question - and paste in the web link so they can look at it:

I just go in and ask to be measured?
Yes, but take your shoes with you so they can see the problem. Make sure you call the "Men's shoe department manager" at Nordstrom's first and ask him who is the best fitter for AE shoes.

While you are there, try on some other styles (which may have different fits) and develop your Christmas list.

Am I a weird dude with super fat feet or something? Does the majority of men have size D feet?
Most of my life I have been a D, but I am also tall.

It was not until 1999 when I first got properly sized at Nordstoms for the AE Sanford - that I found I should be wearing a EEE.

I also suspect many first time buyers of AE on retail websites just look at their other shoes and figure that's what size they would be in an AE shoes, no matter what style.

You're about to find your size, and you will be happy once you know it.

The nordstrom pictures are of the brown calf and not the brown grain

I, too, have some Shelton seconds on the way. Firsts are $345 and seconds are usually $269. This is the standard ~22% off for seconds. With 15% off for the Memorial Day Sale, they'd be $228.65 pretax.

However, seconds for the Brooks Brothers versions of the Shelton (or any other BB shoe) are currently only $159 pretax, so that's what I got. It looks like BB Sheltons are usually $199 unless they're the Tan Saddle version (same leather as the "Tan Saddle Waxy Leather" Elgin) which go for $179.

I considered the Brooks Saddle because of the price difference but they only come in tan and I really want the burgundy/black combination. $228.65 + tax sounds like a good deal if they aren't too blemished but with the 20% Amazon coupon I can get a new pair of firsts for only about $33 more which includes free shipping both ways and no sales tax.

After much soul searching I went with Walnut Shell Bayfields. It was the one AE shell color I was missing.
