Sorry these aren't side by side, but I hope this helps a little with your decision.

Here are my snuff suede Players

I still can't get over it. They look perfect to me! Oh why couldn't AE have shipped me these shoes instead. Did you ever figure out what the defect was?

Thanks! That was really helpful. I'll probably go with snuff suede and bourbon

I've had half an eye on these for a while - I'd very much like to get some chili into my collection - but the "orthotics" part scares me.  Do you wear yours with the orthotic?  If not, did you size down at all?  I'd probably want to go through Allison to ditch that sole, too.

Congratulations - those are really cool!  You've got me thinking about a blucher or derby in unlined shell for myself.  My walnut shell Daltons (which are also unlined) are one of my favorite pairs.

May I ask why you went with the Neumok rather than one of the other shortwing bals that AE offers?  I assume you could have done unlined shell with any number of them.  Just curious . . .

Also, did you happen to luck into a Horween stamp anywhere on the inside?  Always a plus when that happens.  :fonz:

what about a burgundy or brown shell cronmok?

The orthotic is just a removable footbed. It is not any more bulky than the AE's I have with the poron insoles. I had another pair of my AE's with the "orthotic" recrafted and they put in new footbeds, so this is actually a positive for me as you don't get the insoles replaced during recrafting.

You can buy these "orthotics" from AE

You can see they are not bulky.

I bought the Bentons in the same size as 95% of my other AE's (I have some of the Rough Collection where I went down 1/2 size) and they fit great. The last that the Benton is on is a fairly roomy last - especially compared to the 5 last. But it fits very well in my usual size.

I like the sole as I will wear these when it is raining / snowing when I don't like to wear leather soles.

Interesting idea!  I'm lousy with boots at the moment - can't even fit all of them on my racks - so I was thinking more about a blucher or derby.  But, I bet a shell Cronmok would look pretty good.
