$365 right now. You might be able to get a 15% off during the sale in April (?) assuming the Leeds will be included.

What kind of sale prices should I expect for the summer sale?  If I can find a new pair of Allen Edmonds factory firsts, like the Park Ave/Fifth Ave, for 25%-30% off right now, should I just pull the trigger or should I expect better discounts during the sale?

Whatever the standard cost is. I think around $300 but can't remember exactly

I ordered them as a Rapid City instead of a Leeds. They are identical in this instance and it saved me like $75 or something

I am wondering about it too when is the best time to buy? I know amazon can get the price down to 240 about on the very most popular models.

When is does the AE factory sell happens and is it better than the Nordstrom annual sale?

Tried to go back after my order and get a few more... but they were gone by then.

I stopped out today and they only had 2 XLs, so I got them. That takes care of my immediate needs, so I am happy with that.

Nordstrom sells first-quality for about $230 pre-tax and AE Factory sells second quality for about $200 - $220 pretax. Best time to buy first-quality shoes is during the summer when Nordstrom is running its sale. However, based on my experience with purchasing both first-quality and second-quality shoes, second quality provides a better value when you can get the shoebank to give you a flawless or close to flawless shoe. Just be aware that returns are $10 a pop, so if you don't want to risk it, just go straight for first-quality.

Smart. I should have done the same for my black CXL Leeds. However, I got them during the 15% off sale, so I only ended up paying $295 or something.

Thinking of another MacNeil MTO for a casual wear in either waxy suede or waxy teak leather and on a mini-lug sole. Really can't decide which way to go. Thoughts?

1. Burnished suede Ralph Lauren: the leather on this appears similar to the oiled suede AE used on the Katmai chukka.

2. AE for F.S.C. (circa 2011) made of the waxy teak.

Could use some help here!

I've been looking to get a pair of Allen Edmonds for a while and can't seem to get the size right for my foot. There aren't any AE stores nearby (Toronto), but Harry Rosen carries a variety of AE shoes, but only in D width. I was trying on some Park Avenues today and I noticed a problem where the top of the shoe around my ankles would create little bumps after I had them on and was standing. This was the same for 9D and 8.5D, though a little less on the 8.5. The salesperson brought out some ferragamo shoes (8.5EE & 9EE) that fit a lot better around the ankle - but they weren't what I was looking for, nor did they feel as good & sturdy (I think he was trying to sell me on more expensive shoes anyways..).

My question is: Am I getting these bumps because the AE shoes I tried on aren't wide enough? Will the leather stretch out over time and mould to my foot to decrease this problem? I don't have access to wider AE shoes and am looking to pick up some seconds online - what size should I get? I just hope that AE shoes aren't for me due to my weird feet?

I tried to sneak some photos while the SA was away but they didn't come out too well.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

^ could be ill fitting however I think you would know if that were the case. Some shoes on the 5 last have prone to "bowing". You can always order from another store or ask the SA to order a different pair for you.

I really love the AE Walnut Shell Cordovan, which I consider to be sort of between Whiskey and Ravello. I actually prefer AE's Walnut to Whiskey or Ravello. It is a shame that they will no longer stock it. My Walnut Shell Strands are my favorite of all of my shoes in terms of color, designs, shape, and fit.

Although Alden "has" more colors, Whiskey, Ravello, and Cigar are called rare colors and for good reason. They are very hard to get, more so right now. The only way to get them is to establish relationships with the retailers and be patient. Their normal stable is just Black and Color 8 (Burgundy).

On the other side, AE regularly stocks Black, Burgundy, and Brown. All of which are readily available. I typically have to treat AE shell before I consider it to be acceptable.

Just some thoughts, everyone has their own opinions. Also, unfortunately, I have only showed you a fraction of my Shell stable.

MIke,

Good stuff.

What do you treat AE shell with?

Also, your capuccino AE shell looks a lot like my "brown" AE shell. I have 2 pairs of brown shell.

I don't know for sure, but those look as though the laces are not pulled tight. If they are, you would likely need to size up for the width. The 5 last is a little tricky, I'm a D width except in the 5 last, in which I go up to an E. Regardless, if those are the correct size, then the bowing is a defect, IMO.

Nice, I think i am going to wait for Nordstrom sale (also AE salesman said he will price match nordstrom during sale :) If i get a 2nd quality can I still just return it to store?
