I needed to buy some new staple shoes in the 5-last but decided I could wait a little bit longer until the next sale comes around, and besides I was really jonesing for something different this time than the usual dress oxfords. I had previously narrowed things down to either new chocolate Daltons or burgundy shell Cambridges.

I love my burgundy shell Daltons and decided in the end to get another boot; The surprise (to me!) is that instead of chocolate Daltons, the AE store manager whose judgement I trust was able to convince me to go with the Bourbons instead.

If they come out how I expect and hope them to, they should be a great contrast to my shell Daltons without screaming for as much attention as the walnut Dalton does in my opinion while being a little more versatile as well.

This is the picture that sold me from my trusted AE advisor:

Compliments for your new order...very very nice.

Thank you!!

I wish I placed this order about 3-4 weeks ago just so I could get a little more wear in them before the weather changes. On the other hand, if my wife finds out I've ordered another pair of boots since the fall, then I'm done for:

This one makes it the second pair of Daltons, followed by a pair of Long Branch boots, and a pair of Alden Indy's in Kudu.

Just ordered my first pair of Dalton's in chocolate. I hope your bourbon comes in looking as good as that pic, the color can be hit or miss since it all depends on whom is burnishing at the time. Post some pics!

The rubber heel insert has just fallen off one of my Brooks Brothers AE Sheltons.
They are about 6 months old and worn about every 10 days or so. Less over the winter.
Is this normal wear and tear? Seems a bit drastic to me.

Bought them as seconds from the Jeffersonville store, but surely that shouldn't make a difference to their longevity.

Those shouldn't fall off that fast - no way. However, it's probably cheaper and more cost effective to just stop by a cobbler and have him put those on. I'm sure a cobbler would charge you less than $10 and he could probably do it while you wait. The other option is to contact AE see what they'll do for you - more than likely that will involve shipping the shoes back obviously (and then you'll be without them).

Those Shelton's are some awesome shoes. I bought a pair, but I thought they ran to narrow in the D width for me.

The exact same thing happened to my NOS shell Leeds, after roughly the same period of time (but who knows how long they sat in a warehouse drying out before I bought them). I couldn't bring myself to get annoyed at AE or visit a cobbler for such a minor concern. A quick dab of this stuff and it's been fine ever since.

Yes, I'm in England, so there's no way i'll be shipping anything back to AE. Will stop by my local shoe repair guy and see what he thinks. I'm guessing new heels on both which will be about £20.

Love the Sheltons and am hoping to get the burgundy / black ones too.

I'm trying to get my wife a pair of Allen Edmonds boots, the Eagle County which is on the 2 last. She measures 6.5C on the brannock but unfortunately they don't have a that size in the 2-last. They do have a 6D though.

On a 2 lasted boot, would wearing a 6D vary that much with a 6.5C? The 2 last looks like it wears long on the toes so I don't think half a size smaller would create problems on the toe box. I'm thinking that this being a boot, the increase in width would not greatly impact or cause heel slippage. She will also primarily use this boot when we travel to cold countries so I assume she's wearing thick socks. I need someone with a clear head as I'm  drunk with the idea to get my wife some AE shoes so she will realize how good they are and she may even stop looking over my shoulder whenever i make shoe purchases hehe (probably not).
What size does your wife wear in women's shoes? My wife wears a 7.5 and I purchased her an AE Bayfield in a 6D. The fit is really spot on. I'm not sure what last the Bayfield is on, but when we went to the AE store to figure out her size; we were originally going for the Dalton (1 last) and the SA recommended the 6D as well. I know it doesn't help with your 2 last question, but maybe relating to women's size may help. Good luck. My wife adores hers. Now the only problem is I have another pair of boots to maintain! haha

Brown shell Strands have landed. These are seconds; the SA said there was a crease on the right shoe, but nothing else she could see. The crease is definitely there, but it doesn't look bad at all in person.

I think these are definitely keepers. Will be returning the brown shell Jeffersons, which appeared flawless, just not quite my taste.

These are slicker than an oil spill.

Got the first wear on my bourbon strands today. Weather here has been so awful I haven't had a chance!

Pretty sure they are willing to do it during a recraft.
I'm sure you can ask them to replace with Dainite. I have a pair of Sanfords inbound from a recraft and I chose the v-tread option. Will post pics when I receive them.
Does B. Nelson charge extra for a change in type of sole. I figure it should be the same price, but I have read that they will charge $150+ for a change in the type of sole, but maybe that was with a welt change too.

I will ask that question as I plan to call them today or tomorrow as I want to get a Florsheim Shell burgundy to them for new sole and heal -  When I was on the phone about my Nettletons that were there we deiced to redo the the midsole also - that was an extra $40 from what I recall - So my guess is hat $150 charge involves something more than just a change in sole. My whole package was going to be $160 from what I recall and that was a complete tear down and rebuild to original specs with the most expensive sole offering they had.

I have the same pair you pictured but have not worn them yet - I love the burgundy/black combo and want a pair of Broadstreets in that makeup - had they offered burgundy in the $199 Neumok sale I would have jumped on it - of course a phone call to AE probably would have gotten it done but I am sticking to the not available story for my wallet - I have toyed with doing a Dalton MTO in that burgundy/black combo as well for shits and giggles.

Clearly the nails were driven in too far on that heel issue it would seem-

I know they do not get much love but I really dig my Navy Morgans sporting today- some day soon I would like to figure out how to get some of the black off and allow more of the Navy to shine through.

I think at some point I will sell my Bourbon Fifth's and get the Strands in Bourbon....I love those
 - Do you think a light brown or natural welt would be off putting on those?
