I have the Patriot in both burgundy and brown shell. It gets dinged for poor fit on the reviews on the AE site for too tight on many people however it is the only loafer I have ever found to fit my foot. And I love them I've tried for years to find a loafer that I didn't walk out of the heels. So if you have a narrow heel, low volume foot (no to little arch) they work great. As always the shoe that fits the best is the right one IMO. Found out later that the Manchester also fits me well and is a great dress loafer.
I had a similar same experience with the Patriot. I went against all my instincts last summer and had Allison, the Freeport, ME store manager stretch a pair of shell Patriots for me (at her suggestion). I knew they'd be unreturnable if it didn't work but I figured at the seconds sale price (right around $300 IIRC), it was worth a risk. In the end, it's the only loafer I've actually kept wearing. I had several sitting in the closet for years until these.
I have a slightly wide foot (still a D) and a slightly high volume foot. She kept the right shoe on the stretcher overnight. I'm loving them.
For reference, Patriot in brown shell compared to Leeds in cappuccino shell.
