The suede on the toe was a real dark brown but the rest was sort of washed out looking. Never had so many defects in one pair of AE"s before. They are already back at the post office so I can get a refund. Pretty atrocious actually.

Many posts about the SF MTO deal.  Are there special pricing?  What is the arrangement?

The many MTO pictured made me sign up here after years of just browsin!

Thanks,

Okay, that is it! I am start an AE MTO thread to provide the background information and the basic information with more details on pricing, etc. while you spin up your Website.

Yes, Paul Grangaard, offered on this thread to make any shoe (past or present design of which they still have the last/pattern for) with any leather(s) with any lining/sole with no custom made or MTO fee. You simply need to contact our POC, Allison (ameyer@allenedmonds.com / (262) 235-6428) and mention StyleForum/this thread.

The price of the shoes are typically just the price that they would normally charge for the shoe based upon the type of leather that you so choose (calf would be standard price, standard price increase for Shell Cordovan, etc.)

Hope that helps!

FYI Vernon's can be had for $190 shipped through Amazon right now. I don't know how popular they are, but seems like a good price for firsts. Around the same with Hanovers too.

Picked up a pair of new snuff suede Neumok wingtips and matching belt. These are my first pair of suede shoes and now I am wondering why I waited so long to add suede to my lineup. ;-)

I did a bit of web research to find out the sizing differences between the 5 last (I own a couple of pairs on that last) and the 222 last on which the Player is built. Got my credit card, went back to the site, and my size was GONE!

So I checked the Shoebank, and they still had a few pairs in 2nds, and since they were clearance they were also 20% off. Even though I live in Canada (where shipping is $45), the $140 price for these Player's was too good to resist.

Shirley at the Shoebank was really helpful. I received the shoes today, and put on a layer of conditioner followed by a layer of neutral cream polish. I have to pick up some dark brown cream polish (which I think I will blend with a bit of mahogany polish) to start to work on a bit of a burnished effect.

I wanted the Player because its thicker sole and the fact that it is a blucher makes me think it is easier to partner with casual clothes like a pair of chinos more easily than Strands.

Here are my Player's 2nds:

Fantastic shoe. I can't remember why I ever sold these.

I have the Patriot in both burgundy and brown shell. It gets dinged for poor fit on the reviews on the AE site for too tight on many people however it is the only loafer I have ever found to fit my foot. And I love them I've tried for years to find a loafer that I didn't walk out of the heels. So if you have a narrow heel, low volume foot (no to little arch) they work great. As always the shoe that fits the best is the right one IMO. Found out later that the Manchester also fits me well and is a great dress loafer.
