I am considering picking up a pair of the Norwich in shell but am discouraged by the reviews on the fit. Wondering if those who own it could give me some advice.

Unfortunately I live in Canada and after calling around there aren't any 2 lasts within a few hours drive. I have a pair of the Vernon in 9E and I find its just a little too narrow on my toes, I wear a 9.5E in the Strand and if I were to buy the Vernon again I'd definitely size up to the 9.5. Since the 2 Last (Norwich) is similar to the 8 Last (Vernon) any suggestion if I'd be able to get away with 9.5E?

Hoping to make this my first pair of cordovans but worried its not going to be worth my while in the wrong fit.

If you're 9.5 E in the Strand, your best bet may be 9 EEE in the Norwich.

Thanks for the kind words. It's been a self-imposed exile so that I don't buy any more shoes! (Not that there's anything wrong with that...)

I'm literally running out of space, and I've realized that I have a number of fantastic pairs that get little use. So trying to force myself to take advantage of what I have. That said, I was in London for the big winter sale, and there were some nice deals on C&J; I had to hold back. Is this an addiction?

I would actually suggest a 10E. I think the 2 last is shorter than the 5. While hard to fit, I'd say I'm a 8.5E in the 5-65 last and a 9D or 9E in the 2 last. With that said, it's a tricky last. I have one in 9D on the way and I can comment on fit compared to my other 2 last and 5 last shoes if they get here soon enough.

Well it was -16 F this morning. Expansion tank on the boiler went out last night so no heat in the house and spent the night feeding the fireplace wood. The mechanic just left after spending the day here and only half the house has heat someplace there is a ice plug in the line but it is up to 52 in the house now. Just don't feel right wearing loafers in the snow and cold, heck it is too cold to wear them as house slippers right now! Which is something I do very often in the winter because they are so comfortable. Leave tomorrow provided that ice plug melts for the Boundary Water Canoe Area Wilderness till Sunday. Not going to take any AE's along for this trip, but would if they made felt pack boots....

I understand exactly what you are saying, but no surprise to me there :) I prefer to not look at it as an addiction but... hmmm... well OK maybe....

This is normal. All of my rough collection shoes are a 9.5D where most all my AE dress shoes are a 10D. It is normal to size down a half size for the rough collection from your normal AE size. And I wear a size 10D in shell same as calf. The shell is usually very slightly looser fitting but not by much, and not all of them.

Maybe it's art collecting. Right?

I'm originally from southern NJ farm country, but for now I'm in SW Fla. for law school. Good cheesesteak or a slice down here? forget about it (or at least I haven't found it yet). And I think I can still dreamily taste the 5/$1 hole-in-the-wall-shop chinese dumplings I feasted on (gorged on, really) from Mott/Moscoe streets during that last trip. Now I have to wait through spring & summer semesters before getting back in July.

Listen, if you think it'll fit you (I find it fits a bit snugger than long branch in the toe box), then I'll pick it up for you. Just PayPal me a price and shipping reimbursement. And give me a gentleman's promise you won't flip them on eBay for 100$ markup wink.gif

Thanks. I tried on the strand at BB today in 11d and fit better than previous experience. Snug but not painful. Ordered a pair of fifth ave from shoebank!

So it might not be so much like the 8 last after all I guess? I hate the idea of going through the returns process and paying international shipping both ways to figure out sizing. I'd be interested in your experience when you get them.

I based my comment on my own experience.  I am indeed a 9.5 E on the 5 last and I was actually fitted in the 9 triple E Norwich in the AE store.  I was pretty surprised because I've never worn that wide a shoe in my life, but damned if it didn't feel great right out of the box.  Having said that, a 10 E might also work well.  No substitute for trying them on . . . .

Wore an oldie pair today. Don't hear much about them. Anyone guess what they are?

Will do, but I placed an order on Saturday so it might not be here in time for it to be of any help. To clarify, I wear a 8.5E in the 5 last and I have two pairs in the 2 last in 9D. The toe box is a little narrow, but the length is right.

Definitely not doubting your own experience. Just lending my own experience as well. The only thing I've ever read people agree on about the 2-last is that it's hard to fit.
