I have had two phone calls and two emails with her in the last week. Luck of the draw I guess. I will have her call you next time I speak with her smile.gif

Those cloud PAs look great.  You'll break them in and the gap should close up someone once the footbed is settled.  How wide are these?

Thanks man, those are sweet shoes! How much wider is the 3 last compared to the 5 last? Those PAs are 6.5E, which is what I measured on their official sizing guide. They feel a little looser than the 6.5 walnut strands I tried on.

I wear D width in the 5 last and B width in the 3 last, same length.  My experience with the 3 last has only been the Rutledge and they don't have C width for this style.  Give it a try if you ever got a chance.

Congrats on the PA's, wonsmithr8... I get the feeling you won't be waiting long for your Strands!  That shoe is the Rutledge from the Independence Collection in walnut.

THIS shoe...is the one that I have been waiting for:

Shell Cambridge...not exactly screaming "BURGUNDY!!!" right now, but I'm sure some of the shell masters (POLOJOCK, COLD IRON...anybody?!?) can point me in the right direction to make these pop with color. Do I hit them with VSC and/or cordovan creme right away?  I know..."take 'em out the box, put them on, enjoy...",  but I read somewhere that you can remove some of the AE 'goo' from the shoe to get more color to come through, but can't find the post.  I don't wanna search the threads for info! Since I never had cordovan, I've been skimming over those posts in favor of more relevant ones.

...I just got my two favorite shoes (and I would have neither without this sale).  I now see why shell is so loved here.  I don't even care about the difference in size of the punched holes on the medallion.  If you have some, members, please share your experience about where to go from here...

Those sure look brown to me. Might just be my computer though. Either way, very sharp.

I finally gave in and pulled the trigger on the burgundy shell Macneils. So I have those and the brown shell Jeffersons on their way to me.

I might have to go the rest of the year without buying another pair. Damn you AE!

Are they also shipped with trees?

Thank you, my shoe brother... as far as the trees, no such luck, Young.  I bought a couple trees, some polish and cordovan creme, but my SA tossed the trees (and a horn) in, gratis - they helped fill out a box (I've gotten empty boxes to do this job in the past) and I believe she believed I earned them. There was a Hampton and Parkway in my order!!! :hide:

Man, I wanna wear my Ruts in the office tomorrow...lots of people will be around to love my shoes!!! (Swims, anyone?)

They look brown in person, DNSamurai - it's not your computer.  There are a couple scuffs where you can see whats going on underneath the surface...and I like it.

+1 on the shoe buy shutdown for the remainder of 2014; I think I'm at (and by 'at' I mean 'way, way past') my limit for '14!!! BTW, I think I saw only three...maybe four shells in my size, and three were patriots/leeds, so, no-brainer.  I would've loved a Jefferson to be in the mix, though.

A good history of spectators (or as the English call them, co-respondents):

FWIW I prefer the English-made ones, especially C&J's, to AE's variants.  Note how the leather is visible through the broguing on these C&J offerings from PRL, Brooks and Ben Silver:

If the 1 last fits you better than the 3, consider the Hamptons:

Be aware that JAB uses different lasts and different model names.  For example the AE Park Avenue on the 5 last becomes the JAB Broadstreet on the 7.  The final digit of the four-digit model number identifies the last.

Are you near a Brooks Brothers?  Their AEs are same model name and same last as AE's own.  The only difference at BB is the sole.

Very informative response--thanks. I really wish I didn't know about the Hamptons, as what I'm really interested in is a MTO wingtip that looks like this Carmina:

As the Hampton is clearance priced, I'm now subject to unanticipated temptation. I'll probably resist it, however, as I think this style needs a proper shortwing.

Yeah the toe on the AE Hampton looks a bit odd.  That Carmina is sharp, and offers a nod to the original spectator design, which used buck/suede rather than calfskin.

Hmm how well do the jos a bank shoe trees fit AE shoes? Was just curious since the front seemed little wider and little narrower than the osb shoe tree I have. Thanks!
