I know black shoes don't get much love in this thread, but sometimes the austerity and simplicity of them is just right . . . hence, on a casual Friday, black calf Norwiches:

Any design ideas from you all? I want it to be a true dress boot. Either burgundy or chili.

Hell yeah - If I could make another in a dressier option:

Burgundy Eagle County

Independence lining

All eyelets, no speed hooks

Tone matched stitching or black

Single welt black or burgundy

Wheeled edge

Dark edge dressing

Leather sole, maybe they can do the independence dovetail

Actually don't do it because I'd be jealous and life filled with regret

I love the look of the Norwich; just can't make the 2 Last work for me

What last is the Eagle Country on?

I would be lying if I said it was my favorite AE last, and I certainly wouldn't want to walk five miles in my Norwiches.  But, I'm OK with that.  I try not to obsess TOO much about fit.  After all, some of my clothes fit me better than others; why should I expect different from shoes?  If I know I'm going to be on my feet all day and/or will have lots of walking to do, I won't wear these; otherwise, for the right moment, I eagerly pull them out and accept their limitations.

2 last

I really wanted the Eagle County and actually went to the trouble of trying on a variety of sizes of Eagle County boots because I do not have anything in that last and I just could not find a very comfortable fit so I had to cancel my MTO, which was on hold until I could confirm sizing.  That Eagle County last is not very comfortable.

This sounds perfect. Thank you for the insight; and don't be jealous...yours are outstanding. How did you size it?

I always find it fascinating when people say Allen Edmond is a great choice for quality footwear for many of the aforementioned reasons in this thread: quality, durability and price. I whole heartedly agree with everything except for the notion that AE will save you money over the long run. Yes, one pair will undoubtedly last you over a decade if proper care is taken. However, people who purchase Allen Edmonds hardly stop after one pair or even a few pairs. Once you purchase that ONE good quality shoe, you then start to realize what else you may need. Before you know it, you have two more shoes shipping to your home address, while you’re online looking for other possibilities to “round out” your collection. Things start to get worse once you realize that $500 dollars for other shoe makers' footwear or a bit more for shell isn’t out of your consideration anymore. Nobody would jump from a $60 dollar pair of Kenneth Coles to a $550 pair of C&Js. But after owning a few AEs, you can either buy more AEs or branch out to other shoemakers: Carmina, C&J etc… Therefore you will not be saving money, but you will unequivocally enjoy wearing whatever’s on your foot more so than ever before.

Now back to finding out what I need in this upcoming sale, Shell Leeds or Shell Park Avenues. My hunch is, no matter which pair I buy, I will eventually have both sooner rather than later…

Can't get enough of this stuff, haha.

I love the seconds sales and all, but I have to say that the system they have in place is one of the most terrible shopping experiences going!  They really need to find an easier, more convenient way of doing this.

I have a pair of Grey Allen Edmonds Mctavishes in size 8.5 eee. They have heel and toe taps installed and come with red and charcoal laces.  I'd be interested in selling them outright or trading for a pair which I find more interesting.  I bought them secondhand and only wore them twice.  The previous owner wore them just a few times as well.  They are in really really good shape.   I'm parting with them because I'm better off with a smaller size on the 5 last.  PM me if you might be interested.

A couple of weeks ago I did get a list from Vincenzo right after they announced the February Shell sale, but there wasn't much on there I was interested in. So I am hoping a new list will have a couple of new additions...

My list took a little over 24 hours to come back.   I will usually let 24 hours go by, then call.   I usually try to work with the same person, but sometimes that person is unavailable.  I think that may delay my list.   More recently, I word my emails in a way where I ask someone else to help me if my guy is not available.

^^ Allen Edmonds - the new Gateway Drug

The recent posts on those MTO Eagle County boots "inspired" me to email an MTO inquiry to Allison regarding some Promontory Point boots. Truth be told, I needed another pair of shoes like I needed to set my hair on fire, so I'm kind of hoping that she tells me it doesn't work. But I guess we'll see.

Timely as I'm concerned my Shell Leeds will be a Gateway Derby.
