"Made to order." Within reason & ability, AE will custom-make any of their shoes to your specs re color, size, leather, sole, lining, welting, etc.

Specs:

Eagle County MTO
2066 Walnut Calf
Brass Eyelets, 3 Speed Hooks
Dark Brown Contrast Stitching
Independence Lining and Insole
Black Split Reverse Welt
Toby Mini Lug
Brown Transparent Edge Dressing

I placed the order mid December and they arrived today.  And all for $197.  I'll be waiting to see everyone else's.

Very nice. How did you swing those for $197!?

MTO means "made to order."  It is actually kind of an ambiguous term, as AE will call any shoe they have to make from scratch, even "normal" shoes, MTO if they aren't ready to ship.  Here it mostly refers to a custom spec'd shoe.

When AE put their Eagle County on clearance it was $197.  If you're a member here they will waive the custom order fee.  So boom $197 for a first quality boot that originally looked like this:

I like mine better.  Thanks for the props, gentlemen.

Looks great. Seriously looks like a completely different boot. I'm jealous that I didn't do an Eagle Country MTO myself. Looking forward to all the EC MTOs!

Thanks

My specified walnut grain and dainite with a midsole on mine.  After seeing this, can't wait for it to arrive.  Nice make-up.  Congrats!

How did you come up with the specs for the boots? Used your imagination?

I could scream.  How did I miss this?  This (not the pic above--the MTO version) is exactly what I'm looking for.

So--for those of you who have been on here longer than the 10 months I've frequented this thread: how long will I have to wait for AE to introduce then discount a boot in a similar style?  I am about to wear a hole through the soles of my current winter boots (Rieker chukkas I bought in Germany that aren't worth resoling) and may need something before this winter's over.  Once more, I could scream.

I knew AE waived the MTO fee for SF members, but I did not know we could have clearance styles MTO.

I was shocked myself.  I was ready to pay the regular price but didn't complain after I got the quote with the clearance price.

Haha I also just picked up 9 shoe trees from jos a bank. Gonna give three to bro and keep six for myself. Also I ended up returning those 7E BB strands last Friday and got to try on 6.5E strands which by the way seems to be a hard size to find sometimes haha. I love the snug fit and no heel slip at all. It also seemed to fit the ball of my foot better.

Now just need to pick it up along with maybe a merlot or bourbon strand and either Mcallister or PA and stop at 3! Haha

The Promontory Point is still on clearance at $197 http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline/producti_SF6643_1_40000000001_-1_

It's not the same since it's shorter but it's a similar plain cap toe boot. I have an MTO on the way for this one and was offered it at the clearance price.

I'm a bit obsessive, so I looked through every AE catalog they put online - at the end (there are links in posts from a while ago but you can google it) they have pictures of different sole options, though only previews from the bottom up so differentiating between a toby mini lug and a vibram mini lug etc. takes some legwork.  Then I looked at both catalog and then the real world pics from people with their shoes in every calf color I was interested in, then again for types of welt, welt color, etc. until I could picture the make up.  In my case it helped that RL had an AE made boot a while back that was very similar to what I wanted.  That's how I came up with the brown contrast stitching, for example.  I saved all the pictures for potential options in a folder for this project and flipped through them ad nauseum.

So to sum it up - I used my imagination after figuring out what was available to me.  Once you commit to the order you can't cancel it, so I couldn't tolerate the idea of choosing a bunch of things I thought may look good but didn't really understand/was able to visualize.

For OptoDoc...

I wouldn't be surprised if Allison still honored the $197 Eagle County MTO price. Mine was placed just a week ago, though I did start initial conversations in last November.

As always, it doesn't hurt to ask.
