This style is called "U-cap" elsewhere on SF. I've never liked this style, including ones I've seen from Vass and Carmina, but for some reason the AE version looks better to me. Still, U-caps remind me too much of women's mary-janes for me to actually go for a pair. Maybe my mind will change down the road, but it's a no for me at this point.

I agree, I don't like them on the other makers but here it seems to work with the toe and the flow of the brogueing.

I was delighted to find my $39 Brogue Suede Strand firsts arrived yesterday, and they're flawless. I promptly treated them with Tarrago Nano Protector. Tomorrow will be their maiden voyage.

Speaking of suede Strands, Macy's is honoring 25% off through January 26th with code JANMEN and I read they work on AEs. Styles they carry include the Dalton, Park Avenue, and Strand; including the discontinued Brogue Suede Strand. Just keep in mind that the Brogue Suede has a Dainite sole, not the standard single oak leather sole they advertise.

Got a call from Allison while I was at lunch today -- the tan Dublin lugged Bayfields I ordered on October 2 are shipping! Given the brutal cold and inches of snow still piled up on sidewalks around DC, it's the perfect time of year for them to show up. It even just happened to land on my birthday.

Unboxing photos to come as soon as they hit my doorstep. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

My suede Strands arrived Tuesday (not for $39), and they had their maiden voyage yesterday. This is one comfortable shoe. And look sharp. I also treated mine with Tarrago Nano Protector first.

The bourbon Hanover can be had for $195 using that code.

Herewith, a cautionary tale, thanks to my assiduous following of this thread:

Strand, brown shell.  Was very excited to pick these up last fall - seconds, minus 15%.  However, had I known then what I know now, I would have sent them back.  One look at the left shoe should tell you why.  I still wear them - they fit great and are of course brown shell Strands - but am self-conscious (needlessly, but still) about doing so.

Looks like a legit thing to make them seconds. I still think you probably got a good deal. I'd wear them with pride.
