Are the Jos. A. Bank Cedar Shoe Trees any different in sizing or quality than the ones from AE? I am an 11.5E and the table on AE's website is telling me to go XL.

Also (at the risk of sounding persnickety), does it bother anyone else the slightest to have a JAB-labeled tree in their beloved AE's instead of the ones from the company?

Someone up-thread mentioned they flip over the plackards and have them engraved. Problem solved.

I can be rather persnickety at times, but if I had JAB-labeled trees, I wouldn't bother with flipping the placards. That said, I do enjoy that my trees are AE-labeled. laugh.gif (But would have opted for the JAB shoe trees had they been on sale when I needed them...)

I just get them at Nordstrom Rack. Made by AE (Woodlore) and they are $12. $9 when they go on sale. They also don't have any labels on them.

Can't beat a great deal. Plus, who sees your shoe trees other than yourself?!

Did you size down, as many do with Wolverines?

People size down?  I sized up for my 744s.  I also have a EEE foot, so I was worried about width.

I assume the Mini Lug with the midsole is done for the same result.

okk, good to know.

The reason for all the Qs is because Im thinking about getting Daltons with the mini lug soles, so it makes me think that I will be approaching this same situation.

I am on the same page as LeviMay. Basically, you usually just get a single sole, whether it be all-leather (Oak, Butyl, JR, Independence, etc.), all-rubber (Vibram, Othello, Hamlet, Titan, Dainite, Harrier, Toby Mini-lug, Vibram Mini-lug, etc.), or a combination sole (V-tread, Mini-Lug Tap, Tempest). My understanding is these are all approximately the same height. For all-leather soles, making it a double is a trivial addition of a midsole of the same type. However, Allison pointed out that you can add a midsole to the others to get that same double sole height. For the combination soles, this is presumably just an added single oak midsole to match the oak underneath the rubber outsole. I'm unsure, but I assume they do the same thing for all-rubber soles.

Here's what Allison asked to clarify I wanted the midsole:

I also wanted to know if you want the outsole of the boot to look more like a double outsole. The v-tread is typically a single outsole, but I could request the use of a midsole to add some thickness to the outsole.

If I'm at all mistaken , please let me know so I can ensure my order isn't different than expected. :)

That's virtually identical to what she told me.

She takes good care of us, hey?

No. I measure at a 10C, but have found that most AE shoes fit me best in 9.5 D. That's what size I got for the Promontory. In all honesty, these fit better than any AE shoe I own. Most are tight in the toe box and roomy in the heel. These are perfect in length and in the toe box. Not sure about the heel since they are boots.

Yea, I just flip them over and leave them blank. Free modification.

I did that at first, but now I just don't bother.

Do you leave the AE insole in, swap it for another insole, or go without the insole entirely?
