What colors does AE stock? I may ask Allison for some swatches.

Just black and brown CXL.

Thanks.

But....

The description of the "Clark Street" says "natural."

Those new "golden brown" CXL strands are stuck in my cart. I'm on the fence. The color is fantastic.

I know this question has been asked and answered in this thread more than once :embar: but I'm hoping someone will take pity on me and give me the 30-second rundown . . . .

Shell-wise, what's the compare-and-contrast between AE burgundy and Alden Color 8?

Interesting. I didn't notice that. I spoke to Allison and she did say they just had brown and black, but maybe the information hasn't gotten up from the factory/inventory to her.

I say go for it! CXL and a Dainite sole make an awesome rugged casual makeup. I like the white stitching as well. Great, now I talked myself into needing them...

A couple of things I would change on the Rush Street if I did a custom order (which I am really contemplating lol):

Change the contrast piping along the top to something co-ordinating.

Swap out the foam insole for the standard leather.

Also debate the "natural" vs "golden brown" chromexcel.

A pic of the contrast color along the top from eBay

Both use horween shell. The primary difference being how alden finishes the shell to give it that perpetual shine. AE shell is great however falls short of Alden IMO. It should be noted that most manufacturers fall short of Alden in terms of finishing shell. I love my Walnut Cordo Daltons, I appreciate them for what they are. The depth of Aldens color 8 is awe inspiring.

I am missing something with the CXL Strand, is it on AE website or is it a MTO?

On their way! Hope they aren't all jacked up.

That's awesome. I'm hesitant to share my Brogue Suede Strand story as I'm almost embarrassed at the deal I got. But what the hell...

When the Banff slippers were closeouts for $59, I bought 4 different sizes on the recommendation of an AE services representative. Sadly, the only size that worked for me was also clearly seconds quality. I sold one size to OptoDoc and returned the rest, hoping that they could remake that one pair.

However, it had been long enough that they were out of the materials and could not make another pair. What they offered instead was any pair of shoes up to $175! They were kind enough to let me put that toward the closeout Brogue Suede Strand which was on sale for $245. They were out of my size, but were happy to put in a special order. I was also able to put use a $35 recrafting card I got when they fixed the broken tab on my burgundy shell Daltons for free. And finally, I found that they refunded me the original $59 for the Banff slippers. So all I paid was 245-175-35+tax, or $39.38, for a made-to-size shoe that would've cost me almost 10 times that ($373.46) at full price.

Needless to say, I'm very thankful for how it worked out. And because I got so lucky, I am trying to be very patient...

Interesting order you are contemplating..... couple of questions for you
- do you have a pic of the "natural"?
- I have a pair of the Strand in walnut. Is this the standard leather insert you would swap for?
- any idea on the price for a custom order?

These Rush Streets are in my cart at the moment. Really thinking about these...

Speaking of those burgundy shell Daltons (and of great deals, since they were seconds for only $300), I was hoping some AE shell experts could help me out.

I've found that the more I brush them, the worse they seem to look. In particular, there are tiny dry pin-size dots that appear. I can feel them if I run my finger over it. For some reason it seems to occur more with this brand new AE brush I have than this other Saphir brush I own. Any thoughts on what's going on? Here are a couple photos. You'll notice in one that the shell almost looks scratched from the brushing.

I have this same issue on both my shell AE shoes. I don't even use a brush anymore. Just a flannel cloth.

Maybe a better quality brush is in order?
