Dalton in walnut shell:

The Leeds are a little rough even for seconds so they may go back.  The other two are firsts and they will occupy honored places on my rack.

I'm thinking about putting mini-lug tap soles on the Daltons.  Opinions?

Nice pickups! That walnut color looks darker than what AE has been putting out in that color.

I always associate lug soles with bad weather shoes. And, I try not to wear shell shoes when there is a chance of rain/slop in the forecast. So, for me, lug soles on shell boots=probably not.

Cream is a must for the body of the shoe. Although, it does not cover scuffs as easily as the polish. It leaves a nice semi gloss appearance.

"Premium" polish is a must if you are going to attempt to get a decent shine on a captoe. It also works well for spot treatment for scuffs.

The answer, buy both an use accordingly.

Once again, the Walnut Strand rocks and is one of the classic AE shoes.

so use both... like use cream and then use premium polish over the top of the cream on the cap if I want a decent shine or have scuffs to cover up? Am I understanding this right?

That is the correct thinking. . .

 That's it?  Just $2,500?  Consider yourself lucky . . .

Haha at least it was spread out over a year! I didn't see the year part when I responded. I was only talking about over the past 4-5 months for me

Walnut shell Daltons and walnut calf Daltons side by side (shell is on the left):

And, from left to right, walnut shell Dalton, brown shell Norwich, brown shell Strand:

Up close, I'd describe the Dalton as almost a caramel, the Strand as a true brown, and the Norwich as somewhere in between.  Interestingly, when I first got the Norwiches, they were much closer in color to the Daltons, but lots of Mac methoding has gotten them to where they are today.  Two pairs of shell Dundees are also on the way - truffle aka cappuccino (which I've never seen in the wild and am eagerly anticipating), and plain ol' brown.

Also, thanks for your opinion on the mini-lug.  The more I learn about shell, the more I'm gathering that it wears like iron and is very difficult to ruin.  I wouldn't want to go wading in them or wear them for gardening, but I would like to think I could give them hard use and a little TLC afterwards would make them right as rain (pun sort of intended), and the mini-lug would be in keeping with that philosophy.  OTOH, covering the JR with a tap sole may be sort of sacrilegious.
