McAllister isn't double soled. The Cambridge is.

Strand doesn't seem all that much more formal to me. It's still highly perforated.

Anyway, I was just wondering...

Captoes are more formal than wingtips, and to me the perforations don't change that. And, I hadn't thought about the soles, but generally I would agree with coolarrow's statement.

Of course, the McAllisters and the Strands are both great shoes, so you really can't go wrong either way.

and a couple pics next to my new size 8D Alden Tankers for scale...

Props to your missus for her fine taste in footwear!  The Bayfield really is a sweet boot - I wish AE would bring it back.

What are my options here?  Would AE be able to correct this issue? It looks like it could just keep coming undone at this point.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

They can fix them almost flawlessly.

My walnut shell Daltons had a similar problem and were fixed to where I couldn't notice it.

Contact Allison, and send her the pic.

Tanker looks incredible as well. Too many other 8d'ers out there. Where did you acquire those tankers. I was really hoping the portland would have come out better, when i saw it in person I was underwhelmed.

Hello all,

What are the chances that I could request Allen Edmonds do a MTO Patriot in an exotic material? I've recently purchased a Patriot loafer in cordovan and thankfully it fits great, so I can confidently buy another pair in a different material. I was thinking suede, but If there was ever a shoe that I could pull off in an exotic material like brown croc, it would probably be a loafer.

But what about something like ostrich? What other exotic types of leather does Allen Edmonds work with and could possibly turn into a loafer for me?

Thanks for the info.

AE does ostrich is black, chili, and brown.  I never got any because they just don't appeal to me that much.  I believe the price is the same as shell cordovan.  They used to do shark, but they no longer have any stock.  They probably have some bison left over from the Yumas.  Also, if you want to spend a LOT of money, they have gator in brown and black.  I love the Patriot, and it might be cool to see one in an exotic leather.

See below for gator, gator, and black shark.

Chili and brown shark (they are out of all shark now):

Don't get me wrong, I own a pair, but why are they so much more beloved, than say McAllisters?

Oddly enough, I've always loved wingtips more than anything else.  I have the Strand in brown shell and walnut calf, and I have the McAllister in cappuccino shell and red/white/blue.  I also have the Cambridge in black shell, which is very similar to the McAllister.  The McAllister and Strand both have single soles, while the Cambridge has a double sole.  I guess it just comes down to personal preference.

Wow, thanks for the quick reply. Those are some pretty wild shoes! Are any of them besides the patriots yours? Sharkskin loafers sounds pretty badass. I saw Allen Edmonds do a ostrich chelsea boot web gem a while ago, but I can't imagine many people bought it. The web photo of the boot didn't look that great, although I'm curious to see what the shoe looked like in real life.

I saw this photo and a pair of patriot loafers like this would be my aspirational shoe:

Hey, Be. Got those in the Leffot pre-order about 6 months ago.

I haven't seen the Portland in person, yet. I like the concept, I just don't like AE's eyelet spacing. That's what keeps me from their boots, honestly.

Actually, all of the shoes are mine.  I've been on a shoe spree for the past couple of years.  I picked up the gators from an estate sale on ebay.  They had each been worn once, and there was maybe one scratch on each of the soles.  I actually got the order number for them and asked AE about them.  They confirmed not only that they are real gator, but also that it would cost me $3,200 per pair to have them made now.

The Cliftons in black shark were made a couple of years ago with the help of Sherman Brothers, before the current MTO program.  My grandfather had a pair of the old Nassau and I liked the look of black shark.  The brown/chili Sheltons were ordered a while back, but I used all of their remaining stock of chili and brown.  I also have a pair of black shark Eagle Countrys coming up that is using the last of the black shark stock.

The loafer you have there looks amazing - it would just be uber expensive.  I know AE has some croc-print leather.  Maybe a cheaper alternative?

Thanks. I always get those models confused. And, I don't own them. But I will probably get a shell strand if I can get a good deal on them.
