Allen Edmonds Appreciation Thread - reviews, pictures, sizing, etc... - Page 2379

Ok, you fine AE enthusiasts, I hope someone can point me in the right direction. For Christmas I received my first AEs, a pair of Long Branch and a pair of Aberdeen. My question is, now what? I have never owned anything like a pair of shoes this nice so polishing, etc. will be completely new. I want to make sure I take good care of them, I'm just not sure how. I learned enough here to buy some cedar shoe trees but that is about it. When I search around here and on other sites the volume of information makes my head want to explode. Hoping someone can help me clear through the clutter and white noise and set me on the path to proper maintenance of my AEs.

Thanks so much

I was in your shoes (no pun intended) about a year ago. smile.gif I had acquired my first two pairs of Allen Edmonds and found the abundance of shoe care info on this site and others a bit overwhelming and at times contradictory. I think this article from my favorite menswear blog nicely and simply summarizes the basic products that you need for a good shoe care regimen: http://putthison.com/post/54349080129/q-and-answer-what-shoe-care-products-should-you.

The AE website has a few basic guides on shoe care as well, and also has recommendations for what color polishes and creams to buy for a given shoe (assuming you go with their products, of course.) I'm no expert, but I've bought all my shoe care stuff from AE and have been mostly happy with it. As for the actual application of the products, just follow the directions on the labels, go slow at first, and be careful not to over-apply. For more in-depth instruction, check out this thread: http://www.styleforum.net/t/228153/the-official-shoe-care-thread-tutorials-photos-etc/0_100

Enjoy your new shoes and wear in good health. smile.gif

I ordered the suede Strand with Dainite sole during the sale, but I haven't gotten any shipping confirmation. I wonder if they have to make it. If they cancel, I might get the Fullerton instead.

I saw the Fullerton in a store and they are pretty nice. I don't own a suede shoe but after seeing that I am considering it, except I wear a suit every day and don't think I would get much use from them.

Gentleman,

New to style forum.  Three years ago when I graduated from college my dad bought me my first pair of Allen Edmonds, I've been hooked ever since.  Just wanted to share my collection with you all and look forward to posting in the future.  Enjoy!

Eagle County, Carson City, Long Branch, New Haven (first pair), Cole Haan Air Madison

Neumora, Macneil, Strands, New Orleans, Fifth Avenue

In regard to the earlier Reno v. Saphir creme debate, I think I'll get some neutral creme. Spending another 22 bucks on Reno seems redundant when I have a motherlode of Venetian Cream already.

The brown shell Strand is probably AE's overall best looking dress shoe. nod[1].gif

PSA: another round of price drops on boots on the AE web site (firsts).

Long branch (brown): 250
Fifth Street: 275
Haight: 275

My size was sold out of all three, but Jill from Jeffersonville put the order in for an MTO of the Long Branch in my size for 250. She said shouldn't be more than 4 weeks (as opposed to 10 weeks I waited for a Kenilworth MTO) What a deal!

Welcome Sledge, great collection! I feel as though Neumora's are under appreciated on here. I have a pair and love them

Time to take that next step and throw some shell cordovan into the mix :fonz:

Promontory Points have also dropped to $199.

Speaking of which . . . last week I had Zappos send me a pair so I could check them out in anticipation of a possible markdown.  Beautiful boots - a great combination of rugged and refined.  BUT, that grain leather is stiff as hell.  If you snag them, expect a long and not terribly pleasant break-in.

I bought my first pair of Allen Edmonds yesterday at Brook Brothers. The Park Ave versions on sale for $199.41 with the sale, 15% kicker and 15% for opening the card.

Pretty excited to get them in the mail next week. The Brooks Brother ones are a little different I believe.
