IMO, you shouldn't be shoe polishing brand new shoes. Condition yes, but polish only sparingly. I would have applied conditioner to those captoes when new to see if it would be absorbed. It could have been leather shoes that were sitting on the shelves and they dried a little bit. I don't see any cracking.

I do condition before I do anything to a new shoe as a rule. The dalton was fine when I picked it up to replace the first one, but the toe was a little dull/matte, so I was looking for a little more pop. It's good after a strip of the polish and recondition.  I was trying to avoid returning another boot I love, if I could... Appreciate the feedback!

Found shell cordovan park avenues at Nordstrom Rack today. It's the first time I've seen shell at the Rack. Picked them up for $200, but they appear to be in rough shape.

Here are some before and after shots of the shoes after I brushed and buffed.

Do you guys think these are worth the $200 I've spent on them considering they are shell? The dark spots concern me the most. If I decide they are worth keeping, I'm going to use some AE cordovan cream and deer bone to cover up the scuffs and they should look a lot better. Just can't decide how I feel about spending $200 on some beat up seconds, albeit new ones.

Thanks for the input in advance guys!

Those shell Park Aves are great. Had I paid 200 clams for them I'd feel just fine about keeping them. Jealous!

I disagree. One, because using the AE conditioner only can leave the shoes a little hazy and in need of some polish.  Two, one of the reasons for polishing shoes is to protect them. I generally condition the shoes and then throw a quick coat of polish on once I'm sure I'm keeping them.

Emailed Allison Monday morning, received a reply yesterday evening (regarding tan dublin Bayfields with a heavy lugged sole):

My manufacturing team said they should have the footwear done by Wednesday and then it needs to go through final inspection. As long as everything checks out it will either ship by the end of next week or the beginning of the following week.

And NWTeal, I'm throwing in my lot with everybody else. For $200? Screaming deal!

This is in my building.  I hate/love the fact that I can just hop in the elevator to try on and see their shoes so conveniently.

I assume that means you'll be going . . . . If Allison is there, can you take and post a photo of her?  lol

I find it funny how people will put "lol" to the end of a creepster statement in hopes to make it less creepy. :D  Admittedly I'm guilty of it too.

So, I've decided to grow my boot collection.  Having gone around and around and around about it, I'm now 99% sure that if I choose to add another AE, it will be a custom/MTO Bayfield procured through Allison (still waiting for her to confirm this is possible and if so to quote me a price for my preferred configuration).  However, I am also looking at other brands.  Here are the candidates I've decided upon:

Wolverine 1000 Mile

Red Wing Beckman Round Toe aka Gentleman Traveler

Chippewa Homestead

Chippewa Service

If anyone out there owns both a Bayfield and one or more of these others and is willing to share their perspectives with me, I would be very grateful if you could PM me (or reply in the thread if it wouldn't be considered off-topic).  Thanks in advance!

Well, FWIW, I would have asked for a photo even if Allison were a guy.  She has provided an incredibly valuable service for many people who follow this thread.  So, I thought it would be nice to have a face to go with the name.  I guess if that makes me creepy, then guilty as charged.

Certainly will.
