Anyone got a comparison of the dark brown and burgundy?
Preferably for the Kenwood loafers but I think the colors should be the same on any other shoe, no?

I do not like the full toe shoe trees for this reason. As a size 12, I'm supposed to use the XL shoe trees, and observed the same things you mention with the full toe shoe trees: shoe tree fully compressed and not fitting into the shoe very easily or extending into the toe much. I have a pair of full toe shoe trees in a pair of boots, but otherwise go exclusively with the combination trees for this reason.

Yep. I ordered 3 mediums when I bought a couple pairs in Boston last year. Ended up returning them because they were significantly larger than the medium splits. 10D, medium splits fit perfect.

Does anyone have a pair of brown shell Strands and a pair of dark brown shell Dundees? I would like to see a picture of them side-by-side so I can see the color difference.

I just got phone call from AE factory store and they said brown cordovan townley is not part of 2 for $250 promotion...

Did anyone score cordovan during close out sale?

I finally went ahead and ordered 2 pairs of AE's from the shoe bank, I got the BB walnut Strand and the McTavish Tan. Both were seconds, so i'll take a look and see if I can tell the difference between 1st's when I get them.

I tried on a 8.5D in the mctavish, which was too tight around the ball of my foot(8.5 E will also be too small), going up to a 9E should do the trick, but since they run big, will the BB Strand be too small? I know they are on the same lasts, but fit very differently. The mcTavish runs around a 1/2 size larger than the strand.

I wer different sizes in J&M shoes depending on lasts 8.5W in dobson toe cap, and 9W in XC4 style casual.

No, I think those are the Brandywood (they only have 4 eyelets, whereas the Bradley's have 5). They were made from 1993-1996. Quite a vintage pair you have got there!

So I have a burning question stemming from an observation: it seems when most people post pics of their AEs in this thread (or any other shoe pics posted elsewhere in the forum for that matter), the laces are always tied, even when the shoes are not being worn. Are people tying the laces simply because it looks better in the picture, or is there a legitimate reason for re-tying the laces when you're not wearing your shoes? Lol. Totally serious question. Okay, only 50% serious...

Yeah, the 4 eyelet thing is what was hanging me up in finding the right model. They're in need of a good polishing, but I wear them constantly. They were very lightly used when I bought them on eBay.

I don't know if this really helps, but I tie my shoes after I've put them on the trees to help hold the shape.

I would say 50/50. Sometimes I tie them just for the photo. Other times to keep the shape. If I don't tie them then I'll pull the laces tight and tuck them into the shoe before I put the trees in for the same purpose of keeping the shape.

Same here. I've never really researched it to see if it matters, but it seemed logical so I've been in the habit of it.
