Well, the WebGem shell Jeffersons arrived today. Unfortunately I think it might need to go back. There is a couple of small folds on the outer part of the right shoe:

It's not something I can't live with, and if these were say walnut shell so there's no chance of getting a replacement, I'd be OK with keeping them. But it does seem like something that does not belong on first quality shoes. Does anyone think I should keep them?

They should have plenty of brown shell. I would personally return them.

Looking closer at the picture...I'm not sure. That isn't horrible, but not something I would expect on a first quality shoe. I would keep them for a seconds quality price, tho.

Can someone please PM me or post a pic here of the Independence lining? Been trying to scope out pics but can't seem to find any.

Going to place an order with Allison as soon as I see this lining!

Thanks

These do look like a steal. Thank you very much.

Went a half size up from which last? I always heard you should size down for loafers...are you supposed to size up for slippers?

Need some advice from the pros here.  I picked up a pair of Walnut Daltons during the RDA, but am wondering if I should have tried the chocolate or bourbons instead since I already have the following:

Walnut RL Sanderson

Walnut Strands (just picked up with Dalton)

Black Delray

Blue Neumok

Black Park Ave

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Eric

I suspect that you're like me and just love the walnut look.  I am about to add a second pair of walnuts to a rotation that only otherwise includes black and burgundy.  Were I you, I'd go for the bourbons.

I'd send back.  You'll make two people happy: yourself and whoever eventually lands these as seconds.

Same here.  Where did the idea to go up half a size come from I wonder?  Does the thick shearling liner necessitate that?

Or...ask AE refund you the difference of first to second quality.

I would say Brannock at the largest. I always have to size loafers .5 down so I would think I'd start there.

I'd keep those for seconds, and if they would knock the price difference off, I would keep them, but not at the price for firsts.

Agree, I have the same experience with loafers.  However, the thick shearling lining on these may be the reason that they should be ordered TTS, no?

Many online reviews stated to get half size up. They said these shoes run narrow. I prefer my slippers to be a little loose so that I can "slip" them on quickly. My Ugg slippers are beaten up after 3 years. I also called AE customer service and rep confirmed to either go up half size or get wider size. It was either D or EEE and I'm not an EEE so she said to get 10.5D instead of my normal 10D. Also available in light brown. Hope that helps.

That does, thanks.

I just used the chat feature to ask about the slipper sizing.

I told them I wear 8E in the 5 last and 8.5D in the 1 & 8 lasts.

He told me to order 8.5D...so I did.

Thanks for the tip, Fabian :slayer:I've been in the market for some new slippers and almost pulled the trigger on some this weekend that weren't nearly as nice. Now I just need to find a new robe to replace the one I've been wearing since I was in college...

If you are set on walnut i'd suggest the McAllister. The Jefferson while very similar to the McAllister is likely too dressy for jeans and casual khakis. The McTavish won't do as well with dress slacks.

Have you considered a longwing blucher or are you set on a shortwing balmoral?

I have been giving your longwing blucher recommendation a good deal of thought, especially after discovering the RL Sanderson.  The Port Washington warehouse is shipping me these closeout seconds for $149(!):

As my only other (good) shoes are black, burgundy, and walnut, I would have preferred a different tone of brown, but I couldn't pass on these at this price.  Assuming they work out (and my wife doesn't murder me when the box arrives), the question before me is whether to attempt to burnish these to a bourbon color to broaden the palette of my rotation. Thoughts?
