You would have to check with Allison re: Independence lining on a regular calf MTO shoe, but I can tell you there was no extra charge on my shell cordovan order with the Independence lining.

The whole point of the MTO fee waiver, is that all bells and whistles are available at no extra charge. Under normal circumstances, the $125 (or whatever it is) fee, would cover all the whims.

For a namesake? No problem. Here's how it looks on the invoice:
  • ENGLISH TAN DUBLIN-1576
  • TONE ON TONE STITCHING
  • PORON INSOLE 3MM
  • BUFF SPLIT REVERSE WELT
  • VIBRAM LUG OUTSOLE

I'm a fan of the poron insole for more casual shoes; I've worn the nine hells out of my Wilberts and for me that insole works nicely. I wanted a more aggressive sole than the stock Bayfield so I specified that from the Long Branch. This is going to be can't-quite-justify-wearing-snow-boots footwear, like when it's bitterly cold and raining but the bus is late so I have to walk a mile to the metro station.

Incidental: Allison got back to me a couple days later with an apologetic email stating that they cannot make an English tan Dublin belt to match... so the first, best, and only choice seems to remain Dave Mitchell in Milwaukee.

Just two days ago, Allison confirmed what cincikid says: no extra charge for Independence lining or anything else (with the obvious exceptions that shell will cost more than calf and tall boots are more than shoes). The MTO price is based solely on the base price of the leather upper.

Those look great! I can't wait for mine to arrive now. The heel stack looks just as good as I thought they would. What kind of sole edge dressing do you is being used?

Here is a pic of my Brown Shell Strands when I first got them late spring/early summer. And also a pic of my new Brown Shell Jeffersons that arrived yesterday. You can see the color of both of them when new is very similar.

Now here are some pics of them today, compared to my new Brown Shell Jeffersons. You can see that the Brown Shell Strand has lightened up over the past 4-5 months. Some of this is due to a lot of brushing, but some may be due to exposure to the sunlight. They certainly do appear different in natural light than in indoor light.

Now here Are my Brown Shell Strand, Brown Shell Jefferson and Brown Shell Patriot, to give a comparison. All 3 should be the same color of Shell Cordovan, yet you can see a difference in all 3. On the shelf below you can see my Walnut Shell Macniels (2 pair) and my Black Shell Macneils.

I can't promise that all Brown Shell Cordovan will evolve this way. I hope this helps.

I am not sure of the color of the sole edge. It is not chili, that much I know. Chili is more of a brownish/red. This is browner, with no red.

I went for a drive yesterday and my car got damaged.

Can this be fixed?  Can Safelite auto glass specialists repair this or do I need a new windshield?

Thanks.

I'm surprised there is no McAllister in brown. I may do one with the independence lining for a poor man's Jefferson.

Took a look at the shell cambridge (AE) in burgundy.  Very nice fit, but the shell looked terrible.  I suspect it is a shoe that has been in the store for a while.  I don't know if AE shell ages this way, but I have seen this with a great deal of AE shell models in store.  The color looks like it fades, almost like it was colored with a crayon.  Additionally, the different pieces of shell on the shoe had different shades of burgundy making it look like patch-work.  (I've seen this with both AE and Alden from time to time)  Needless to say, I decided not to go with it.  I thought of ordering it directly through the website in hopes of getting a newer pair, but decided not to since I'd rather not discover a couple of months later that my shoes would transform in this manner.

Any thoughts or similar experiences??  I may just stay with AE calf models...

I want to order the McTavish from Amazon.  They list the Cognac color (as sold by Amazon in my size).  They also have the Dark Brown Cognac Leather, sold by Shoebuy.  Are these the same color?  It's hard to tell from the pics, but according to AE website, there is only the Dark Brown Cognac Leather.

I would be interested in the technical aspects of this reply, i.e., how you did the annotations that run off into white space, etc.

Can you explain how you did that? Looks pro.

I have a Canali (by Carmina) brown cap toe.  The quality of the leather is superlative.
