Many people have said the AE's typically run a little big depending on the last.

I really recommend going to the store and getting fitted properly. Your Allen Edmonds shoe size vs usual shoe size may surprise you. The sizing guide online is only accurate when considering your heel to toe length, which may vary from your heel to ball-of-foot length. For example, on the size guide, my length is a 7.5, but the size that fits the ball of my foot is 8.5 D. If you plan on investing in a quality pair of shoes, it's worth the time to get sized and fitted properly by a professional.

Edit: In the past, people have had success tracing their foot on paper and sending it to the shoebank for a size recommendation.

In running shoes I'm a 10 1/2 or 11. I'm really glad I went to the store and got sized as I'm a 9 1/2 E in Allen Edmonds. I settled on a 10D (which the store had in stock) which works but had I ordered 11s on line it would have been a hassle to return them and probably would have cost some cash as well.

BTW, now that I'm in the Allen Edmonds 'club' is there a secret handshake or something that I need to know? New Walnut Kenilworths for me...

TJ,

Here are the answers to your questions.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

1) Here is a picture showing wheeled. Essentially it puts little lines along the top of the welt. Regular welts typically just have the stitches showing.

Regular Welt Example: Allen Edmonds Park Avenue or McAllister

Wheeled Welt Example: Allen Edmonds Jefferson (or any Independence Collection Shoe)

2) Split Welt - The welt line disappears (magically) typically under the heel of the shoe. This picture decently depicts the concept. Note that the stitching disappears once it hits the heel area.

Regular (360 degree) Welt Example: Allen Edmonds Park Avenue or McAllister

Split Welt Example: Alden Tasseled Loafers (Style # 563) (Sorry, that was the first one I found like this in my closet).

3) Reverse Welt - There is a vertical piece to the welt that is stitched to the upper. Typically seen on slightly less formal shoes (Longwings, Chukkas, etc.)

Regular Welt Example: Allen Edmonds Park Avenue or McAllister

Reverse Welt Example: Allen Edmonds MacNeil or Dundee

Hope that this helps.

-Mike

Very informative. Thanks very much for that.

Hello.
I want to buy
Allen Edmonds Mora 2.0 Monk Straps, and Fifth Avenue Cap-toe Oxfords.

I use Carmina in Forest last EE fittings. Maybe you can help me choose the size?

I don't own the Fifth Avenue, but I bought the Mora 2.0 monkstraps in my heel toball Brannock shoe size. I hope this helps.

I'd like to get a second opinion on the Patriot loafer sizing. Do people usually size down .5 to account for stretching?

On sizing, you maybe be different sizes in different lasts.

My Webgem Shell Cordovan Jeffersons have arrived. Here are a few pics I snapped. I will get them cleaned up and show some more pics later. Looks like a great shoe. If you didn't order a pair of these, be jealous... :)

It would be the best deal to get the shell Jefferson as an SF MTO during the RDA sale. I'd be jealous of that since you'd be paying less than I did for the shell Jefferson.smile.gif

Had the heel stack looked this good in their pics online, I probably would have gotten these. But who am I to complain, I am getting these in a MTO with cappuccino.

Looking very good, the Strand is just an awesome pair of shoes. I want to see the Mora 2 in person before I take an opinion on them....

Hmm thinking maybe I should have done the double JR sole on my MTO strands.

Does anyone have Allison's email address? I have her # but would like to email her.

Thanks,
