I called and they have my size but I'm not sure which is a better buy.
Original AE walnut strands or AE for Brooks Bros. walnut strand.
Your opinion is welcomed.

Well, if the price were the same, I would choose the AE version because I prefer the leather insole to the poron version, and I like the classic look of the leather sole. However, the combination sole on the Brooks Brothers version is fantastic for traction and still very low-profile. Since they're pretty much interchangeable in my book, I'd pick whichever one you can snag at a lower price point.

Are these Allen Edmonds?
I was able to find a brown pair of shoes thrifting, They fit relatively well, and the imprint on the inside sole says they are an 11. Whether that's 11D or E remains to be seen.
Thanks for any help. I havent cleaned them up, any suggestions what to do. They are quite heavy compared to all the shoes I've tried on in store, which is why I believe they are quality shoes.
Thanks!

They look like they might be Florsheim LWBs, but I'm no expert. They could be older AEs, but I see no markings to imply that, and based on the condition of the insoles (lack of), I'd probably say they're well past their prime.

Honestly, I'd buy whichever is cheaper. Same shoe, except for two things: Brooks put a rubber half sole on the outside of the leather sole, and they use Poron instead of cork for the insole. If you have a strong preference about these things, buy one or the other. But otherwise they are exactly the same, and likely the Brooks have a higher standard for what qualifies as firsts.

...which means I agree with thesizzle...

I think the insoles have been removed. But boy, the inner sides look spotless - that's usually the part that gets torn up. You can easily put in a new insole and probably get these looking pretty good. Also, I see some printing inside the shoes. Maybe if you photograph that, someone can identify them.

From the condition of those inner soles, it almost looks like they were removed after the last time they were worn. They do look okay, and they might be salvageable, but I don't know how they'd work as a flip, if that's what he's going for.

Any ideas to make them presentable? I was thinking a shoe tree, a cleaning and a new pair of soles to get them in good enough condition to wear. New laces too.

I actually want to keep them in my wardrobe, they are the first pair of dress shoes I have- outside of a pair of black Payless shoes I bought to buy some time.

Which printing is that you were mentioning? I only saw a 11 where the soles will be, and the silver on the linings.

I'd take them to a cobbler and see what they say, to start. They can probably judge the outside for you, too.

Try posting a pic of the shoes and the lettering on this thread: http://www.styleforum.net/t/24109/hof-labels-heels-and-nail-patterns-secrets-to-id-the-maker/1125

There are some seriously knowledgeable shoe folks there. My latest guess is Hanover, but I really have no idea.

They are both filled with cork under the insole. The actual insole itself is either natural leather (traditional AE) or Poron (Brooks Brothers version).

I'm regretting my Magnanni 'Miro' Double Monk purchase of yesterday from Nordstrom.
Got them at full price for $330.00 after tax.
Going to return them and bite the bullet on those AE for Brooks Bros.
With the extra change i want to see if i can get me a pair of Neumoras. (Still want double monks)
