The pair of Van Ness I owned a few years back had something similar looking on the inside. For curiosity's sake I lifted and peeled it back a little- It was a thin layer of leather, with what seemed like a thin layer of cotton-like material underneath (imagine a cotton ball). No idea what was underneath that layer though... I didn't peel back too much because the insole was not removable.

I can't speak to what that cotton-like material was, or if the new strands have the same insole, but it did have the same appearance. It did make the shoe seem less "deep", so I can definitely understand when others say it changes the fit of the shoe.

So between shell Dundees or Daltons...which would you guys go with? Black, brow, walnut, or burgundy? Decisions, decisions...

Dundees in brown would be my choice. More versatile in my opinion. I would get away with wearing a plain toed chukka to work, but I doubt a high wingtip boot.

Where are you finding walnut shell? If you can get it that would be the first choice. Can always get the others at a later point

No brainer for me. Walnut shell. Unless you are an 8 or 8.5 smile.gif

OK, so the list of Shells in my size contain only Leeds, Bradley, Randolph. Three shoes I don't care for the look of. That burgundy Cambridge I was lusting over last week is long gone.

Oh well, better to save for what I really want: burgundy shell derby like kenilworth or flatiron. Has anyone ordered an MTO shell on the 3 last?

Also, perusing the Fall catalog, I noticed they named a new shoe after me: Cornelius. Great! Too bad it's a loafer (meh) with tassels (yuck), and a kilt (aargh).

A shell kenilworth would be perfect. Another member picked up a pair on ebay a while back- looked amazing. I am jealous of all you guys who have been receiving the fall catalogues! I received 2 for AE's new clothing line in the past week, but nothing for 2013 fall lineup. Anyone care to share? =)

Can't decide between Strand and Jefferson webgems. I have walnut calf strands and walnut calf daltons (and marlows and an alden sw), so the cap toe vs short wing styles are both covered. This would be adding to the depth chart with a more versatile color.....hmmm....

Does either of the lasts fit your foot better? Perhaps that would be the deciding factor

No, dalton and strand both fit well when sized appropriately. Sizing is not really relevant to my dilemma though as both the strand and jefferson are on 5-65 last; unless I am misreading.

I was in an AE store today and saw the suede Strand as well. It had an insole similar to the one pictured above but the one I saw was a little different. The one I saw didn't have the holes around the edge of the Poron heel portion and instead of being straight cut, it was cut on a diagonal and the rest was leather just like the photo above.

Also, the salesman confirmed that the next sale will start on Sep 30 on all models - at least 15% off.

I'm waiting for the sale to pick up the suede strand. Any indication if cordovan is included?
