Im in the same boat with my pair of Hamptons.

I said to myself, " this deal is too good to pass up!" Well I should have passed it up. The shoes are good but they dont quite fit that well.

That being said... ANYONE INTERESTED IN A PAIR OF BROWN HAMPTONS? 11.5D.

David... In short, deer bone & Saphir Reno. I have mixed it up so much on them, but recently it has been pretty vigorous brushing, deer bone, brushing, liberal amounts of Reno with 5 - 10 min drying time, more brushing & flannel cloth. Sometimes a wet cloth thrown in at the beginning.

I don't usually use wax on shell, but when I first got them, I used a dab of wax just to get them presentable. It has probably been removed by now.

I say save your money and buy what you really truly love.  If there are shoes that you love at a discount price, great!  However, one should never use "well, they are on sale..." as a reason to make a purchase.  Buying things because they are on sale can turn into a serious mental illness.  Such habits can ruin lives, and no, I'm not joking.

I got the Elgins on the 2 for $250 sale.  I was looking at the McTavish but this is so similar that I went for it.  I think it is my favorite AE shoe so far!

A converse to this is buying something on sale, finding you don't like it, then selling it on the B&S. You won't be out so much cash. Lets say you buy the RL Saunders for $129 and don't like them. I think you can easily make back most if not all of your outlay (lightly worn, of course). Remember these shoes were MSRPd by RL at $500 or so.

Yeah that can work for some people.  My point was that it's a dangerous habit to get into...  buying things because they are "a good deal."  While it doesn't always hurt you, and indeed benefits you on occasion, it's still far better to save your money and buy a pair of shoes that you truly love.

When I was young my mother would take us shopping for school clothes and when we found something we wanted she would always ask, "Do you like it, or LOVE it?"  We only ever bought the stuff we absolutely loved, not just the stuff we thought might be of use.

Can anyone post a list of the current outlet sale prices going on right now? I have no idea how I would search for that (and I dont feel like sifting throught the last 25 pages to find it) and I know there were several individual models that were included beyond the Daltons.

Thanks in advance.

I'm interested in a pair of Bayfield and/or Dalton. The Bayfields at Land's End only come in D width and $400 for the Dalton is a bit out of the budget at the moment. I'd only grab them if I could save a few bucks. I called one of the outlets and in my size there's nothing of either. Am I SOL until something shows up or does anyone know of another way to save a few bucks on these shoes besides eBay?

Thanks!

Again only in D but the bayfields are only $221 on 6pm:

If you need widths you are stuck with AE seconds, the occasional nordstrom sale, or ebay.

I don't think sizing up in length would be good as my 5 and 1 last shoes are already on the long side but I need the width.

I'm thinking of buying the following this weekend:

Bayfields  - $167

Rapid City - $159

Shell Dalton - $439

-OR-
Chocolate Dalton $199

The last one is tough. I'm digging the look of shell, but I'm not sure as they're more than twice the price of the calf ones.

That was the brown CXL straight from Lands End. Very seldom can you use a Lands End discount for AE shoes in the Canvas section and I was happy just to see them get the 10.5D back in stock.

By taking Paul up on his offer to SF members and waive the MTO fee a person could pick up CXL Bayfields in any size or width for the same price ($350) I would think. Or in calf of any color, I also have them in black calf. And as of today cappuccino shell smile.gif. Pictures don't do these bad boys justice, but I will try to get some up soon.

Did a quick job taking pictures after I got home, hope they help. If you need something else just let me know.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I used a level with the shoes side by side, hard to do a measure of the difference hopefully this will give you some idea of the height difference.

From the side, I tried to get the soles and backs all straight and in alignment with each other and got close but would not count on it being 100% accurate. Picture taken from the Townley side because they are lower in height and the Leeds stick up above them, this is the differential height of the Leeds.

From the top: The throat openings.
