A little closer up. Still, not very large at all.

From my understanding, the W means the shoes have been worn. They may have been worn and sold by somebody. Or they may have been worn for other reasons. I bought a pair stamped with W and they had been used in a modeling event. The soles barely showed any signs of wear and they uppers were only slightly creased. But they had been worn so couldn't be sold as new.

So the W could mean a wide range of things. You just have to look at them and see what you think.

Greetings!  I too purchased AE shoes from the Nordstrom sale and I have a question about how they should fit.  Please understand that I have used google, read tons of this thread and really done more research than I think would be considered reasonable in most peoples eyes.  Bordering on obsessive actually but I still can't get the final answer that satisfies me so I'll ask you people.  I picked up a pair of Walnut strands and a pair of Park Avenue's.  Actually I bought several pairs and will return those that don't fit.  I've narrowed them down to either the 11 E or 11 D on each.  The 11 D's feel pretty good to me in the heel but a little tight in the toes width wise.  I can't say anything feels like crushing but definitely more snug than I'm used too.  The 11 E's are looser in the toes but the heels are a bit looser too.  Neither seem to be a perfect fit to me.  The 11 E's in the PA are particularly looser compared to the Strands so I think I've settled on keeping the 11 D's in the PA.  I think I prefer the 11 D's in the Strand as the 11 E's I received don't seem quite as perfect in finish.  Anyway....The question is what should I be looking for when determining the correct fit for these shoes?  Should I be able to completely "make a fist" with my toes?  Should my heel sit in the bed with nearly no movement or should it be able to move around a little bit?  Will the snugger 11D's loosen up over time?  Should I go tight and have them stretched or go with the looser fit now?

so I got neumoks in 8.5E and they fit great but for some reason strands flare open at the ankle. Is this just because the neumok is unlined and soft?

Judging by the fact you are able to completely close the laces, I would guess they are probably too big.

+1 that they look too big; there seems to be a lot space between the collar of the shoe and your foot.

Side note...what are those burgundy ones? They look great (other than being too big)

Sorry I don't know. I just imagine if you can fully lace them up there is little to no pressure against the foot/ankle.

All the shoes I have are 8.5D. The AEs are Weymouth and Dryden, and now Katmai. The Amoks in 8.5D felt funny on my left foot. Daltons I tried in 8.5D also fit me well. I have a few pairs of C&J that are all 8.5D as well

Thge Drydens might be better if they were 1/2 size smaller, but not a big deal
.
I don't have enough knowledge about the lasts so I just ordered several styles in the same size, knowing I'd return some of them.

The Strawfuts also came. They look nice but they are too big for me so I'm returning them. Probably a good thing given all the other shoes I've bought recently

Expecting one of the shells to be delivered today. I'm going away this weekend so I won't have time to check it out though. Running out of places to hide my shoes biggrin.gif

It started pouring like crazy as I was about to leave so I didn't wear the Katmais in the end. Didn't want to risk it. I read they are supposed to be able to stand up to crappy weather but I need to apply the AE Waterproofer spray first

Ha! That's the blob I was referring to earlier. It's what I have on the seconds I just received. It really looks like a blob, though, so I didn't realize it was supposed to be a shoe till you posted this.

So... does anyone know what signifies an Alden seconds? (not that I would ever consider buying Alden or anything apart from AE of course smile.gif )

I'll tell you my sizing story in hopes that it will be of benefit to you. Since I was a teenager I have worn size 10.5 sneakers and size 10 dress shoes. I always considered this to be my size and didn't think twice about it until I ventured into the world of Allen Edmonds. Using the AE Sizing Tool I printed from the website, I measured a 9D. My first pair of 9D's were painful. After months of frustration, trying on multiple sizes and returning countless numbers of shoes, I have settled in that I am what can be called a 'true-to-size" (TTS) 8.5D with variations on this depending on the last.

For the 5 last, I had to go down one half size in length and up one size in width, which is pretty common among the members of this thread.

In your situation I would try a 10.5E in the Strand/Park Avenue and see if this doesn't work better for you. If this is not an option, I would stick with the 11D for both as the tightness across the toes will most certainly lessen as the shoes start to break in.
