Ok, I'm sorry for the attitude. smile.gif

I'm just not in the "black must be conservative and austere" camp.

I was working a black tie event last month, and joe torre was rocking and pulling off black double monkstraps with medallion captoe, with a tux. So circumstances and intent (and personality) matter, is all I meant...

In fact, last year my agency instituted a "black shoes only" policy for events, and I wore my black LWB as a sarcastic protest. No one cared, except my boss, who absolutely loved the shoes...

But for sure, I've been guilty of buying clothes just because they're a good deal, and regretting it soon after...

A good friend of mine at work is French educated Lebanese. 3 things we will never agree on- Israel, my choice in shoes and vehicles. He drives a BMW and claims that I should be driving a Mercedes-Benz. When I ask him if it comes with locking diffs front and back and what is the approach angle he rolls his eyes. Can't see me blowing through water up to the windows with a Mercedes because some beavers had built another dam along some logging road LOL. The right tool for the job......

Had a FJ55 Toyota Landcruiser back around ~1980 in Washington State (Hood Canal side) which when I got married a few years later it was the first thing to go. The Toyota 2F engine was anemic at best so I did the Man A Fre small block conversion starting with an acid dipped bare block 350 Chevy and built it up from there. Punched it .020 over, 4 bolt main, milled the heads and pop up pistons gave compression where it ran best on 93 or 94 octane. Topped her off with a Holly 650. It was a beast but not sure where I would get fuel for her today. Last I saw of it she was headed to Adak, Alaska. In between the Nissan and Toyota I had American vehicles, but finally gave up on them.

If you want front and rear lockers and a fantastic approach/departure angle, I think the best route is a Jeep Rubicon with 35-37 inch Swampers.  mwink[1].gif  nest.gif

Just FYI, both shoes have cork under the insole.  The difference is the insole itself.  The Poron insole is a layer of fiberboard, covered with a thin layer of Poron foam, which is covered with a thin piece of leather.  Traditional AE's only have a thick piece of leather as the insole, and nothing more.  Changing the insole composition doesn't eliminate the need for a bottom filler underneath.

my opinion is a little different than others. I would call it a tie. The strand is probably one of the most casual bals I have seen. Although mine is in walnut which perhaps lends itself to being a more casual color. What are you looking to pair it with I.E. a suit, kahkis and suit coat etc.

I haven't seen any "in the wild" pics of the Ashbury. They always intrigued me for some reason as I think they would look quite nice with jeans. Would you take pics of them on your feet sometime?

-Merci Beaucoup

Some new stuff showed up on the website, including a brown suede strand:

a PTB Wilbert alternative:

a PTB in football leather. I'm not fond of this one, but I don't really like grain leathers in general:

and a wholecut oxford:

That Strand is going to murder my bank account. I was doing so well at holding off!

Outstanding.

The suede strands are my new must have purchase. (With apologies to my other desires which are now one rung down on the ladder).

One day I will have to get those wholecuts as well. Perfect black-tie shoe. They are called Hanover. Google shows that this used to be the name of a now discontinued penny loafer.

There is a Fifth Avenue in bourbon that says new. Is this true? I don't know exactly what colours it came in before.

Here's a new one as well: http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline/producti_SF6643_1_40000000001_-1

It looks like the Wolverine 1000 Mile, made from football grain leather.

It also looks like the last is now part of the AE line-up (it says new B34 last!)

Speaking of Bourbon. Has anyone successfully found a belt to match, other than the two offerings by AE (Manistee & Dearborn). I went to Nordstrom at lunch the other day and couldn't find anything I really liked.
